hello i am a new player of ctp and i have a friend who is a new player , i would like to know if theres anyway to play ctp online with another person we both have version 1.2 ..

	Increase the size of your Attachments

You need the 1.2.1 patch. Beyond that i can't help you because it doesn't work on my PC!

Better still - play by e-mail (PBEM). It's the game played by champions

You don't actually need 1.21 - but it makes game play less buggy - You should easily be able to play online by selecting Internet from the Multiplayer option - typing in a profile and you will see a list of servers - IF you do not see any servers, you need a new servers.dat - Attached to this - Just locate the existing servers.dat with the Find file windows option and copy it over the top. Job done! File is usullay in the ....../ctp_program/ctp directory.

Obviously unzip it first

I'll do a test to see if this servers.dat works with Mac version of CTP... the last one I downloaded from 'poly didn't work... I'd like to jump in on the online arena this summer though.

I tested it out and went to the servers listing today. They were empty. Man it's no Counter-Strike.

Hey...I am completely new to this site, and am totally STOKED to se such a following for CTP. I am really wanting to get back into it, ane so is my friend in another state. We want to play online, but I can not get servers either. I am a Mac user as well, so if you could please let me know how to find servers, I would appreciate it. Also, I am seeing comments about a 1.2.1 patch. Is that Mac as well. What is the latest patch for Mac?

Hoarfrost22 - 1.21 is not essential it does not really change gameplay, just makes it a little less buggy - I can attach the PC servers.dat, but I guess that will not help for a Mac user will it??

Flameflash do u know any Mac Users who play online?? The 1.2 parch would not have had an MP option if it was impossible surely?? What do u get when u go to internet option under multiplayer? Is it just an empty list??

Hoarfrost in the meantime, I could start a PBEM between you and your friend whilst we sort this problem out?? - And if Flameflash is up for another we could call the game the three macateers!!

Thanks for the reply...when I try online it does not progress past the "finding" or "locating servers". The green slider slides back and forth, and it just stays there at that screen. I have to cancel out.

Other issue...like I said...I am completely new to this site and online CTP! What threads could I look at or where should I go to read up more on the PBEM games...I am not entirely sure how they work.

Third issue...I am in Tulsa and my friend is in Austin (that is not the issue, just unimportant info. We used to be roomies and play networked all the time, now we just wanna play each other again.) The issue is that while I am on Mac, he is actually on PC, and through a little thread reading it appeared that that has also posed some problems for others. Again...What threads or links do I need to check out?

Oh yes, there's TCP/IP and Internet... the Internet one is the one that searches for the servers... the TCP/IP one would require us finding out IP addresses before connecting and ought to be pretty easy to set up though I've only set up one TCP/IP game in my life, and that was with Civ II... the rest of those games have been through GameRanger...

That's what always happens to me... so know that the problem is just you... it's a Mac thing.

You've come to the right place... here, and the other CTP forums are your next stop... be sure to e-mail me at flameflash@mac.com so I can send you the CTP turn transmogrifier... it'll allow you to play Windows turns on your Mac.

Just e-mail me and I'll send you a little Mac program that will allow you to open Windows .csg saves and allow you to play with the rest of us here at 'poly.

I'm not sure about that... if you e-mail me and mention that in your e-mail as well I'll be sure and check what version mine is... and I'll also send a good scenario MOD for accelerated starts (thanks to the creation by Keygen.)

These newer games are great! I just wish I understood why in the world the older ones aren't going as fast. If they went as fast as this one, for instance... somebody could win R2 Islands in just another month or so...

The difference is statistical - turns are sequential - in a 6 -8 player game it is easy to miss a turn, a player to be away ot whatever - but in 3 players turns come thick and fast, u are always expecting the turn, and if anyone does delay - it is easy to spot who. I intend to start as MANY games as people want - so anytime a player wants a game - just let me know - I will start em all the same day - on good maps!

That's true... looking forward to the StarDreamers game getting up and running faster when the other guy finally gets back...

I think I like that concept of having a bunch of resources in the city radius. One thing I like about Civ games is the empire building, watching it grow, science can sometimes just get annoying and in the way, but with it sped up like that (with goods) there's still the science aspect, just not as much of a wait for it...

that might be cool... what'd be funny would be to make the premade capitol in outer space... some kind of aliens settling a new planet kind of adventure... each race would get one space city and a settler to send down to the ground... while the space city would grow, they've woken from a long sleep so they have to rebuild their knowledge since their computers crashing is what inspired the awakening...

well, really wouldn't need that major of a redesign... just need for every group to have a space city and otherwise normal start. Just think... you could colonize the world basically anywhere you wanted to if you used your space city to build settlers...

Well a little more complicated than that - you would need to grant all the associated tech and prequisites - Also you cannot build settlers in space - just space engineers yes? Seriously beyond me -mainly from a time angle - starting a 'normal' 3 player takes about 1- 2 hours starting a game like that would take more time than I have... .... SO YOU CANNOT HAVE YER SPACE CITIES!!!!
