Or is it just that symbols (any symbols) don't mean much to me. They are, essentially, just different colours in a specified pattern.

However, today is today and now that symbol is a sign of repression, racial hatred, and the murder of innocents. It is not appropriate in any civil society.

Does the Finnish Air Force still sport the insignia? Why did they change it?

Yes, the swastika has a bad reputation. The 'correlation' swastika equals nazis or the things you mention is very common, but incorrect IMHO. Swastika is a swastika and nazis are nazis. Just as false generalization that everything, where there is a maple leaf, has something to do with Canada.

Just to point out, isn't banning swastika and allowing other symbols also one sort of 'racism'?

It's easy to understand the ban of the swastika. What's more interesting is that MarkG allows the hammer and sickle - we all know that in raw numbers, various commie dictators of the last century racked up death and terror numbers to make the nazi regime look like sunday school kids in comparison.

But then MarkG is greek, and greeks seem to have this thing for communism - an all-european disease, really. In Europe, spitting on the victims of the nazis brands you - rightly - as a racist and hate monger while spitting on the victims of communism brands you a progressive. Go figure.
