The SimCity poll! Get a bigger avatar today!

Just curous to see how many inhere have played the different SimCity games!

I didn't include the special CD's (Like SimCity 3000 Unlimited), so if you played e.g. SC3k Unlimited, then it's just SC3k

I have played all of them!

what about the "none" option?
ok, you could say Simcity Banana is none....but i played all of them, and just couldn't resist the banana...i'm sorry...

i played all of them a lot...liked them all, even if they did cut certain features in sc3k like the industries tax, they also added good things like garbage disposal, and neighbour deals.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

The original was perfect.
3000 is also great, and 2000 is...ok. I hated the arcologies, though building a 9 mil people city was pretty cool.

I've played all of them.

IMO SC 2000 was the best - it expanded on SC, and didn't have the interface problems that let SC 3000 down (ie, the inadquete level of feed back on how your city was going [I once cut the main water pipe into my city by accident, and didn't get a peap out of that useless news thingy at the bottom of the screen ])

Yes- 2000 was the biggest leap forward.

3000 didn't have a whole lot more in it from 2000, except, of course..

IT DIDN'T HAVE ARCOLOGIES!!

I liked the fact that 3k allowed you to build a bigger city and move along 'traditional' growth patterns, but it would have been much nicer to have arcologies as an alternative that shifted the endgame into two divergent choices resulting in very different looking cities. Of course the planes would have to learn how to fly round or over the darn things first Some of the dumbing down was welcome - you could actually get a city burgeoning into life quite quickly by opting for money making schemes instead of having to save for 20 years to buy a second powerplant.

The one truly new feature I wish for is handling of slopes and curves. No tile game has yet managed to cope with rounded hills, varying angle slopes or construction on ground that isn't flat. Until they improve this then building any city that wasn't formed on the ubiquitous flat grid pattern will be impossible to recreate. Roundabouts would be nice, too

agreed that 2000 was the best one ... 3K was a pretty big let-down. It was a good game in its own right, but considering the time between 2k and 3k i was expecting something a bit more radical.

They were fun though .

SimCity 2000 was by far the best of the bunch. SC1 can't touch it, and SC3000 was just an expansion to SC2000's wonderfulness.

True, they seemed like an attempt to make one game a little longer. Once the city was as big as it could be you could start to flatten a small part to build arcologies until the city basically consisted of Launch Archos (I think they were called that way) lot's of police stations and a few fusion plants. I once played so long I could watch the Arcos launch twice then I realized that just planting Arcos wasn't fun, they made the game longer yet more boring ,too.

I'd say the arcologies was good in one way, I like the idea of them, but I hated them because they were way to cheap, it would be much better if they were that expensive, even the richest city in the world could only afford building a few of those!

I liked SC3k better than SC2k, but not because of the gameplay, because the gameplay was almost the same, but the graphics was much improved, it was cool to be able to recognize the different cars, and even watch the people on the street

I wonder how many (in %) who would like to see the archs get back in SC4?

hmm, dunno about roads, in the preview it was only mentioned that you can now built on slopes, i think the roads will be the same as in sc3 though, a banked roads gpoing straight just doesn't seem right

I just went through a few screenshots at gamespot, and found this picture showing there exists several types of roads (Does it look like), small quiet roads, the standard road and a type of highway road though not the same type as in SC3k (As far as I know)...Take a look here:

It does look a little smoother. There are some roads that seem to be running diagonally down a slope, but there's a road in that screenshot you supplied that can only manage an endless series of corners. Looks like the're still evolving. The buildings on slopes are encouraging. I hated having to flatten everything just to prevent lines of unusable terrain running through my metropolis.

I've played the original (on PC and on SNES), SimCity2000 and 3000, and 3000 has been my favorite. Maybe it's all those odd-looking advisors telling me what to do.

But I'm a horrible simcity player. The only version I've had any luck playing is the original. I think I have a problem with all those zone choices- light, medium, and heavy everything.

Simcity, before it was called "simcity classic".

I bought it in a store for like, 15 bucks, played it for YEARS straight. brought it to school, got my math teacher to let me install it in the computer lab, got EVERYONE in 7th grade math classes hooked on that game. people actually started doing their homework early so they could use the last few minutes of class to go play it. my teacher liked me for that one.

Only ever played SC2000. But dammit, I liked the Arcologies option. The only qualms I had were their appearance. But that's easily changed with the Urban Renewal Kit (I got the Special Edition).

Never saw the Launch Arcos launch before. What is it supposed to mean?

Tired of ads?

Launch Arco's were (iirc) fitted with rocket motors so that in the event of earthquakes threatening their destruction they could launch into orbit. They were the biggest, costliest and best balanced Arco, needing practically no support from external buildings to reach A+ quality.
