In your opinion, which patch detail helped the game the most? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I'm relatively new to the Civ III scene. I read the patch notes, but for someone who has not even completed a single game before or after the patch, the notes are somewhat useless for me. I am just wondering this because I have seen a few posts now saying how the patch has greatly enhanced their gaming experience. In what way has the patch accomplished this? Thanks from a person who has just rediscovered this game.

Got spare money?

I wouldn't know. My game crashes with any patch installed.

However, that being said, I think that the "auto-" hotkeys would be the most helpful. I.e. SHIFT-U to upgrade, the j key to move stacked units, etc. That kind of thing just makes the late game modern warfare easier.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

I agree with trip that J was probably the best improvement

also-air superiority, though it doesn't come into play that much for me.

tone down of corruption and other additions to the editor.

oh, and the thousands of civilopedia corrections

they are doing a great job of patching as things come up.

Personally, air power was resurrected by the early air superiority fix. It's old enough that I almost forgot they fixed it, but it stands out to me as a good one.

Plus, the editor additions.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

For 1.21

Lethal bombardment options in editor, along with a whole bunch more goodies.

Lower corruption and waste with Police Station, increased c/w fighting for Courthouses, and slightly lower over all. Also able to easily tone it down further in the editor.

Toned down culture flipping a bit.

Increased tech costs so the ages don't fly by quite as quickly.

Added the option to abandon cities. Very good for when a temporary stop gap city is no longer needed, or to avoid the consequences of Razing (I think).

Draft and rushing unhappiness decreased back to 20 turns (it had been bumped to 40).

Lowered AI tech trading a bit.

Fixed the 'last settler' bug.

Fixed movement costs for fast units attacking stacks.

and many, many more of greater or lesser significance...

You know, game crashing is indeed a major problem with Civ 3 for a lot of people especially if you Edit.

Patch 1.21 adds some flexible in what you can do with the Editor. 1.17 was despised, esp. vis a vis AI extortionate trade demands.

We needs about six or seven more patches and the game might be ready for marketing!
