Map Preference Tired of ads?

I saw centrifuge's posting asking how to create a Flat Map and it made me wonder. I personally don't like to play on anything but a ultra-gigantic donut map. The concept of there being set borders, at the top especially, bothers me. But I began wondering if anyone else saw advantages to other map styles that I may be missing.

Well, for my purposes, a flat map is necessary, because in a European scenario for example, you shouldn't be able to hit Spain by going east through Russia.

That makes sense. But I noted in the tournament game, for example (which I will, unfortunately, not be able to turn in under the wire) the game is not donut, and if IIRC, CPT2 defaults to this mode. I was wondering about this more than real world maps.

Suffering from ads?

Small vs Large: Smaller maps means that you'll run into opponents faster and thus have a faster game, usually with more ancient warfare. Also, on slower PCs small maps are faster. Personally I have a slow PC and little time, so I prefer small/regular maps.

Earth/Flat vs Donut: Donut maps make for a fairer game (no hiding in corners) but earth/flat maps are more realistic, more earth-like (although the polar region could still be better). I like both, but since Earth map is the default I usually play on an Earth map. Occassionally I switch to Donut though.
