"TOP" Control -- Stop the Madness!! Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

[/rant on]
I believe I speak for the ppl when I say -- This forum has too freaking many useless "Top" threads!! IMHO, any thread should be pretty darned important to deserve a Top desgnation and, looking at the list, this is simply not the case.

Personally, I find forums with too many Top threads downright annoying. Just because you know how to PM the Mod does NOT mean that your thread is important enough to merit a Top tag.

-- If a thread is of historical importance to the forum and would otherwise fade off the charts due to periods of inactivity -- fine.
-- If a thread is just one poster's idea of what's important, well, that's just a big fat pain in the, uh, neck. And frankly, I'm seeing a lot of this.
-- IF A THREAD IS WORTHWHILE ON ITS OWN MERIT, IT WILL STAY NEAR THE TOP ON ITS OWN!!!!!!!

Here's what I mean --

1. The High Council thread -- was supposed to be a record of elections and such, but got massively threadjacked early on. Still, deserves to be topped.
2. Join the Democratic Game -- a deserving thread. Easy place to record ppl's first posts upon joining the game, etc.
3. Presidential interviews (2) -- No one asked for these, and they instantly turned into spam sites for the ongoing Hydey-adamsj Mutual Abuse Society.
4. Daily Newspaper -- marginal at best. Again, if it's worthwhile, the thread will stay active and near the top.
5. Game and Forum Rules -- See # 4.

I have declined to top the History thread because I did not want to bog down the Top list. Unfortunately, that list has doubled in the past week or so, primarily with quasi-journalistic threads of minimal relevance. As a result, other current and relevant threads are being pushed down below screen view.

It's time to Stop The Topping!!

Someone needs to be designated as the Democratic Game's "Top Cop" !!
All requests for thread-topping (and un-topping) would be submitted to this person for consideration. Could be a job for the Prez or VP.

...or maybe -- your loyal Historian.
(Hey -- that's me!!)

Relax, -Jrabbit. Maybe you should take one of those chill pills you prescribed shade - they seem so effective.

The Foreign Office has informed me that a request has been put in to 'Poly God Ming to remove some threads from topdom. I have gone on record to say that the thread for discussion of the rules by the Committee should be topped, but it appears that the one we already have may suffice.

Give it a day, and things should change for the better!

Your Ever-Soothing VP,

MrWIA

I agree that the forum is getting too "top-heavy". There really should not be more than 2 or 3 at most, and those interview threads have to go (they are fine to continue, just not as "top" threads).

I suggest that the Historian conduct a poll of the current "top" threads to see which ones the Citizens value. We could send the results of the poll to Ming and ask him to make some adjustments.

I agree. I think that the history should be topped too. It's an important thing for a newcomer to see and topped threads grab attention

MrWIA, I don't know how you made it happen so fast, but thanx!!
This is much better.

As for topping History, I want to see if we can distill it into a closed thread containing only the actual storyline. We can used normal threads for development and commentary.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I must publically thank adamsj for resolving our top situation. I had little to do with it, and AFAIK it was the Head of the Foreign Office that put in the request to the Ming God to remove the top status.

Thanks!

It was your idea, though and I agree and acted on it and I think the history thread should be topped as well as the rules thread and committee!
