In a tip of the cap to Locutus, here is the current status of the civs in the XP, and a study of the evidence suggesting their inclusion

Civs 100% confirmed to appear
1. Spain- The Works (UU, leaderhead, civ name in screenshot)
2. Mongols- The Works
3. Carthage- (MP setup, mention of Hannibal on Infogrames site).
4. Vikings- (Viking City names, UU)

Civs unconfirmed, but with considerable evidence
5. Koreans- 50% (UU image, but could be part of the Feudal japan unit-pack)
6. Celts- 80% (leader mentioned at infrogrames, only at 80% due to the off-chance Firaxis may somehow use Brannus as the name of the Viking leader or may inexplicably meld the vikings and celts into one civ)

Two slots remain, and there has yet to be an American or Middle-Eastern Civ, so it is safe to say that these cultural groups will each claim one of the last two spots. We are likely to be looking at
7. Inca/Sioux/Maya
8. Arabs/Turks/Isrealites/Mali/Ethiopia

Still very worried about Conquistadors and especially Keshiks here. If Keshik truly replaces the Horsemen, then on Pangaea maps, Mongols could conquer two or three civs before anyone gets to the Middle Ages. Much too scary.

Conquistador, if it replaces Knight, is bad, too. I guess there's something different for Firaxis.

Don't forget another factor that needs to be considered in these guessing games on the new Civs. The fact sheet strongly implies that the UUs for the eight new civs will be divided up such that there will be two new ones in each era.

At this point, the only UU I can see as being 100% peggable to a particular era is the Spainish one. That is definitely a Medieval UU. I wouldn't want to give 100% ratings to the era of either the Viking or Mongol UUs this point. I'm sure someone could make arguements either way on which should be ancient and which should be medieval. But they can't both be medieval, because of the Spainish UU, and I would strongly suspect that a Carthagian UU would be ancient, if Carthage is in. Which only leaves one spot open in each of those eras for the Vikings and Mongols, and they sure aren't industrial or modern units.

This also means that for the remaining civs, we should be seeing their UUs fitting in the industrial and modern eras. Factoring this in might change the numbers for slots 5-8 a bit.

Vikings! Yes!

And I like the Berserk UU (should be Berserker I think). Like some of you mentioned in a couple of threads I think the Berserker should have the ability to attack from sea. That would reflect history rather well. Of course gamebalance might be an isue here because no other civ gets that ability for many years.

I wonder/hope if one of the Viking special traits are Commercial. They were great traders. Trading as far away as present day Turkey.

hi,

From the website above:

"Eight new Civilizations: Represented in four eras, each Civilization features new units for even more strategic depth"

Could it be that each civ gets 1 UU in each era?
Well perhaps its a bit optimistic, but it could balance the civs throughout the game and give place for more differences in strategy between the civs.

Of course, if the editor is done well I can allways add those UU's myself

Perhaps the new units are culture specific. Like in AoK, where the Mayans and the Aztecs got special monks (in appearance at least) and eagle warriors, perhaps there are special European units, as well as special Asian units etc. That way the French get the Musketeer and the European UU. Maybe even trait specific units . . . though a generalised "militaristic" unit is a kind of strange idea.

Put an end to popups!

Solver, et al, here is a solution I presented to the "odd" statistics of some the new unique units.

Firaxis introduces a number of new units in the XP.
One of those new units is the Crusader, back from Civ 2. Fitting somewhere between knight and cavalry.
The Conquistador is a special version of the Crusader.

Firaxis hinted at the possible existance of new, general, units for the civs to use on the Infogrames E3 website, and that would easily explain the new uu's statistics.

It seems no-one listened to my point showing the

"allow civ specific abilities"

In the multiplayer setup.

That would suggest that there is more than just a UU for each civ.

Yeah, there could be the crusader in the middle ages, say, 4/3/3 , so that the Spanish Conquistador becomes an upgrade of it.

Still thinking about Keshik. Unless they've changed the Ancient Era dramatically, Kershik is Middle Ages. Look, 4/2/2 unit means that there has to be a 3 defender in that age, and I don't think they added another defended in Ancient Age.

Hmm, the Immortal is 4-2-1 isn't it? I could see the Mongol unit fitting into late antiquity. Perhaps they will add a new unit called the Horse Archer that is 3-2-2 or somethin'.

So the Vikings are back! Great stuff!

I'm sad to say that Firaxis seems to have hired some serious feminsit talent for doing the faces. So OK, Khan is ugly - so what? He's supposed to be ugly. But Isabella? She's down there with Liz and Cath.

Geez.

Spiff, I don't think Da Skinhead's all that hot either. Still, she's a lightyear better than this. But Cleo still kicks serious butt as numero duo, and Issy ain't gonna change that anytime soon looking like that.

Perhaps the Viking leader will be a hot chick? Scandinavian girls are pretty nice.

Maybe they will, but I am a member of a number of other fan sites, and the desire to have the ability to play more than one leader (regardless of whether you have one male and one female or just 2 leaders) is expressed by a large group of players.

The same goes for the UU for each era.

Do I expect either to be in C3 PTW, probably not. Are there other ways to do this? Yes, modders have made a good start on new Leaderheads and UU's both.

If the 2 mods currently being put out pan out, it will be easier for us to add it in ourselves.

Hopefully, this question will be resolved before the end of E3.

It would be nice if updates were put out on the link with additional information since the company does know more.
