Any good Navy games? Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

you know ships, big guns, sweaty men

I always wanted to get one, but some look to difficult. I want accuracy, but I don't want to get butt raped by the ai .

Fairly recent ones with decent graphics would be nice. I still remember playing submarine games in the 80's. The graphics were a bit lacking you could say.

But of course gameplay is the #1 desire.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I like Sub Command but its a tad complicated or can be.Previously attending the Naval Academy is most helpful.

Hapoon III can be bought off the Internet, it is Harpoon II which only worked in ms-dos, to work in Windows, and updated with a database for/after 2000.

Hapoon 4 may come out, may..........

Here's a link to Hapoon III, and Hapoon was out in 1989, and still is the best naval game that can be played, I guess.

The Navy (some personnel) play Hapoon and have been since it came out.

Link to Hapoon III (and I never got around to making the superduper half-world map WWIII, which would take even a faster computer to play since I wanted to include the kitchen sink.
Anyone with a supercomputer!
Just joking!

Made mainly for smaller scenarios, but the maps are really nice, when half the world is there, still one has to look up where bases are in the world, what kind of ships and planes other countries have, but then the database is worth it in the game, just to look at -- what other countries have in the world.

A few things missing like Airforce I and the Russian counterpart and any other country, if they have one.

Play it with logistics, air refueling and everything.

The AI lacked a little in Harpoon II, but maybe that was redone a little.

Just think of being on a ship in the middle of the ocean, somewhere, when the alert goes off, they found you, and fired their missiles from 300 miles away, and of course, they are big missiles, and you may be dead!

But I learned quite a bit about warfare of the modern world and navies of the world.

Well, enough, here's the link :

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Wasn't Avalon Hill's Wooden Ships and Iron Men made into a computer game?

There's also QQP's Grandest Fleet. Not exactly a detailed simulation a la Harpoon, but still fun. DOS based.

Woodenships and Iron Men was indeed made into a computer game and should be available at home of the underdogs. Apparently, most of the AH computer catalogue is now available there. Also, Check out Matrix games Uncommon Valor(air land and sea..but most of the emphasis on sea power).

Increase Your PM Length

I also had Fifth Fleet based on the board game of the same name - Avalon Hill or Victory can't remember which. it was quite interesting as a combined air/sea/sub strategic game. Possibly a bit old now though.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I've got 5th fleet as well and it's a game I got a lot of enjoyment out of. Unfortunately, it's murder getting it to run on any windows platform as it's a DOS based game that looks for a large amount of core memory. I finally got it to run using a boot disk and disabling all unnecessary drivers(including sound) If anybody's interested, Underdogs have it for download.
