It has been very hard to quantify the damage caused by the release of radioactive material into the atmosphere after Chernobyl, because, after all, it just increases the chances of contracting cancer, and doesn't cause a 'certain death'...but I wonder how much it increased the incidence of cancer and how many more deaths resulted. I am sure it can be estimated...

Well, proven deaths. And number of probable deaths because of radiation most likely isn't that big either - compared to amount of background radiation your average Finn gets in an year, even amount of radiation nuclear power plant worker gets isn't that big.

And if it's probably deaths were talking about, it's oil and coal that are the real killers. 200,000-400,000 Europeans estimated dead per year because of coal and oil plants and combustion engines.

My two cents: Nuclear power is "clean" power and the best way to go until something cleaner is developed.

In the U.S., we recently had a power crisis in California in part because we actually shut down a major nuclear power plant. It would be good if the anti-nuclear activists here would change their tune so that we could build more clean nuclear power plants. But, don't hold your breath.

First, it’s not about the store of waste, but about REFINING of waste (refining without use of bacteria as you believe )
Second, the refining of waste is the very profitable market. The Brits and French doing this since long time, we are only begin to entering this market.
Third you are able to refine your waste by yourselves. Your companies will never let us on your market.

Finland , Suomi , Helsinki ;

the green league gets out of the government because the parlement voted a yes on the plans to build a new reactor plant .
so that is the end of the rainbowcoalition , they seems to follow the advice of the minister of enviroment , Satu Hassi .

it also puts the prime minister , Lipponen in a hard spot , without the 11 seats from the "green" ones their is no rulling majority , ....

further more , the debate went on behind closed doors , as to wheter or not Finland should build and upgrade new and existing plants , .............

they also seem to lack the right people for the job , ......anyone intrested , ........

the social democrats dont want know about getting people from Russia , ..............if they can do so can we they say , ....

maybe they should come to apolyton , and learn a bit on communication skill's , ..........

the same for ideas and new jobs , ..........;

It's going to make it a bit more iffy to govern, but they'll manage.
