Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

But still... propably my most favourite combo is warlord and life magic. Because of CHAMPION-LEVEL units... for comparison:

Bonuses for champion over elites: +1 attack, +2 bonus to-hit ( ), +1 defence, +2 resistance and +1 hitpoints... and all these per figure. Hmmm...
A champion level barbarian spearmen have these stats:
-melee attack 4
-thrown attack 4
-to-hit-bonus +3
-defence 4
-resistance 10
-hitpoints 3

add adamantium weapons: melee, thrown & defence 6

damage done:
-first: thrown (8x6)*0.6 (60%chance to hit) = 28.8
-then: melee (8x6)*0.6 (60%chance to hit) = 28.8
[edti2] these are (2x6)*.7 (70%chance to hit) = 33.6...

WOW ... that's pretty amazing for a basic unit... ... but still, they are only 8 individual strength 6 hits, so I wouldn't go straight after great wyrns with this...

[edit]: corrected the chance to hit..(it was 50, but as all of you know; 30+30=60... not 50 )
[edit2]: actually the alchemists guild increases another 10% the chance to hit. thus the thrown and melee damages are 33.6...

No doubt that makes individual units great, no. But I simply don't find it to be any problem whatsoever to defend my few cities with magic-weapon wielding elites anyway, and I do all the offense with heroes.

Now if heroes could level further, that'd make warlord very interesting. I think it's probably a design flaw they can't.

Tired of ads?

BTW... has anyone noticed the similarities with the Great Wyrn (emerging poisonous worm in MOM) and the giant worms of arrakis (in Dune - I cannot remember the name of that species)...

They both are huge.
They can burrow.
They both are huge.
They move fast underground.
They both are huge.
The arrakis-worm leaves valuables behind - the spice. The Great Wyrn leves valuables behind - treasure.
They both are huge.
I wouldn't want to be attacked by neither of them.

Put an end to popups!

I go with Artificer, and the others that make building magic items cheaper. You can actually make quite a profit building and destroying magic items, enough to keep you in mana. Build plenty of MP enhancing items to give to your heroes, and keep most of them at home. This will greatly increase the number of mana points you can spend in a turn, which greatly increases the number of mana you can make each turn. Build up a couple of devestating heroes, I like the missle firing types especially. Give them items that make the do more damage, fly, invisible, armor and magic protection. Then send them off to get experience. After a while they should be able to take on really tough nodes etc.

Sikander - that tactic is a classic... and IMHO way too powerful to be used on any difficulty level except impossible. But still it's a great tactic.

Yea, that's (impossible) where I've been playing for a long time. It's especially fun because you don't have to build and manage all that many units, so play moves right along. Plus I like the whole hero and magic weapon matching game anyway. Sometimes you can go through a hero drought, and you pray that you can get summon hero quickly. Sometimes you can pick up a few extra books from nodes and build insanely powerful magical items.

Have you ever got the flying warships?

I only got them once, but two of them loaded up with (I forgot, but something tough) can clean up the map.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Well, you can allways load flying warships with these:
Adamantium weapons (+2 attack & +10% to hit)
Flame blade (+2 attack - or does it really affect on rocks, i don't know)
Eldritch weapons (+10% to hit)
Holy weapons (+10% to hit)
Elite status (miscellaneous bonuses)

Hoho! Flying invisible warships are a bucket load of fun. Sikander, you've described my favourite strat as well. I love the artifact mixin' and MM reducing aspects of that as well.

If you want to go this route, what thait's do you think are the best?

Artificer, Archmage, three life, five sorcery is my favourite, I think. Then pick Guardian Spirit and Healing as your free spells and you're all set.

As additional bonus, trade your artificer spells for other high level spells on first contact with the enemy. Love it.

IIRC, I go with Artificer and (I can't remember the name of this one, but it gives you a cheaper cost to cast general spells like those you use to make weapons), 5 blue, 2 white and 2 red (sometimes 2 green instead). I like healing as well as the anti-magic thing.
