Military Plans, 1640ad Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Scanning the details of our empire, there are only some small tasks to perform before ending my current term as Supreme Military Commander . This poll serves to wrap them up and allow a smooth transition to the next commander of our dominant military forces. (I will not, however, relinquish command of the pigeon brigade. )
First, the status of our wars:

1. Carthage - Who do these clowns think they are? They are not worth any of our attention at this point.
2. Egypt - We have sacked two cities, acquiring one wonder, two techs, and a bag of gold. We are in a fine strategic position to defend our new holdings while the next commander organizes his crafty schemes.
3. America - Thus far we have killed a unit or two, but have not invaded them yet.

There is nothing new to do here until the next commander has his plans ready. There should be no threat to our new lands, more units are available to reinforce.
----------------------------------------------------------
What needs to be approved by our comrades:

Several cities have an excess of units imposing martial law. Only 3 units affect happiness, yet some of our cities hold 4 units! As your S.M.C. , I recommend moving these extra troops to strategic points, in particular the war front. I suggest we have a standard regiment in each city, with exceptions allowed - 2 musketeers and 1 offensive unit such as a crusader. Any additional units should be moved to the front. The muskets should withstand any lame-brain AI invasion or barbarian attack. The attack unit will ensure that no danger be feared.

In particular, those cities with 4 musketeers really should reassign the fourth to the front to defend our new cities. This will free up production in those cities for key projects, be they other units, walls, or barracks. Vote!

Lastly, do we wish to designate a ship and unit to continue exploration of the vast unknown? More huts await!

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Thank you for your superior service as our SMC, Minister of War Sodaq! Yours will be hard shoes to fill for the incoming Minister. Your place in our history is assured.

I also thank you for the advice (and guidance) you have provided by both specifics and example (I could not have attacked Heliopolis successfully without having seen how you designed the attack on Elephantine). You will be missed.

I agree with your advice concerning the forces to be maintained in our existing cities. With 2 Musketeers and a Crusader, we will have little to fear from other civs or those irritating Barbarians.

I will make it a point to bring all 4th and above units to the front lines, thereby increasing our ability to apply force where desired and to reduce shield consumption from excess defensive units. If have no doubt that the next Minister of War will concur in this solid advice.

Military Planning Tired of ads?

Of course, we have to move excess troops : but on a same island, if martial law doesn't ask for 3 units, we may reduce to 2 musketeers/city, plus 1 crusader in only one city, connected to the others by roads and, in the future, by railroads.

About the unknown world, I think we have to light the dark part of the map to discover hidden cities and to open huts for gold, NON units or even advanced tribes. ... with carefull with Barbs .

Agreed. But as we are currently commies, those 3 units help the people smile. If/when we become a democracy, your idea would be very good - especially considering our woeful production levels...

You *did* make it multiple choice...

And I can see possibilities for both uses of excess Musketeers...

Move them to our new city's in egypt, this way they can start on building baracks right away, with our new city's building units, we have more shields availeble on our core 3 island for caravan and shipbuilding.

If we can spare the forces, exploration is good. New cities scattered around the world are fine since we are not corrupt like Capitalist dogs!

Otherwise I believe we should concentrate on our campaign(s) - huts will no longer give us techs (we have achieved Invention) - someone correct me if I'm wrong in this. Huts will give us Cap- I mean Barbarians , gold and maybe new collectives (advanced tribes). These are a lesser priority, as we have some room for new cities already, and once we have Cleopatra working as a slave girl in one of the Peoples' strip clubs... there will be much new land for all to share in.

As President Cavebear remarks, this thread is a multichoice poll, and a citizen may want that excess units reinforce front line and participate at the world exploration in the same time, for instance 2 units for exploration and the remaining ones to war.

Exact cf. my precedent post : no more tech and a risk of barbs.
But I think it always is usefull to know the hidden part of the world (our present islands have not optimal grounds for development).
About barbs awake from huts, we may have an explorer (we have seafaring) : with 3 moves in any terrain, we may disembark him, he opens the hut, and if he awakes barbs horde, he re-embarks in the same turn !

Yes, this is multiple choice. However, it seems to vote for all 3 of the "excess unit" options is simply contradictory! I can understand voting for both moving to the front and other tasks, but all 3?!

Anyway, it isn't crucial.
