Types of Scenarios Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Assuming that the editor in June and the "enhancements" is PTW will create the ability to make and play DECENT scenarios, what kind of scenarios will you be making and playing when the ability comes out.

What exactly would you do, sit around with your finger over the big red button?
-WW II Pacific Theatre
As I see it, the WWII senarioes Firaxis promised will proboly be two maps, Europe & America, & Pacific & America, so no need to make it unless you want to play it single player.

WWI, or anything worldwide from 1870-1918
Colonization, if such a scenario is possible in Civ3
Falklands
Mexican-American War
Spanish-American War
Russo-Japanese War (1904)
Crimean War
Conquest/Colonization of Africa
Prussia's wars with Austria and France, on the eve of German unification

These are scenarios I might want to play...

- Colonization

- Napoleonic wars

- WWI

- WWII Europe
- WWII Pacific

- WWIII (sure it hasn't happened, but it would be interesting to see some speculation as to how and when)

- Post-apocalyptic (with a combination of new civs formed after nuclear war, and remnants of old civs looking to restore their power)

THe "cradle of civilization" areas, with all the units and that kind of stuff.

The Persian Wars (greece) or the Peloponesian War.

The conquest of peru.

The hundred years war

Who mentioned that Firaxis will be making any of these scenarios? You do know that it is possible for other people besides Firaxis to make scenarios don't you, as long as Firaxis releases a complete scenario editor?

Btw, by the context of Jeff's comments it doesn't seem like Firaxis will be making any 'real' scenarios, however, by his same comments it does seem like we will be given the tools to make 'real' scenarios. I hope I'm wrong on the first part and right on the second part, but only time will be able to tell.

Lost somewhere in all that E3 coverage, there was a comment that Firaxis would be taking the "best user created scenarios" from the web and slapping them on the expansion disk. The implication was that they will NOT be creating any scenarios in house, only accelerated start-ups for MP.

Personally, I don't have a problem with this.

As to the thread topic, I will be working on various Roman Republic/Empire scenarios imported from Imperium Romanum II. I had some success doing this with Civ2, but was always hampered by the 7 civ limit and the lack of borders.

I think you are right, but as the following thread alludes to, http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...&threadid=51394 those that have the experience in the complexities of making truly superb custom scenarios will not be doing the same for Civ3, at least not for a while. Quite a few of the Civ2 HoF Scenario Designers believe that it will take more XPs before they can reach the level of where Civ2 scenario designing is at currently. I think one of the reasons for that is Firaxis' definition of "scenarios". As I said in that thread, I get the suspicious feeling that they think "modding" is making scenarios.

I was planning to do an Atlantic trade scenario, based on the privateering, pirating and colonisation of the New World. Spain, Britain, Netherlands etc. With resources in America and so on.
But without a scripting language, it might be harder to make it playable.
Oh well. I'll make do I guess

Tired of ads?

As soon as I have the scenario editor, I import "After the Apocalypse" to Civ3 (well, I'll try to adapt it intelligently, but later). Any building scenario would please me : building is real civving.

DarthVeda :
We already have altered startups. In the next patch, we'll be able to place cities and units, and I suppose we'll be able to say "this Civ has this tech, while this Civ hasn't". That's not as great as Civ2 offered at the end, but as good as what Civ2 offered out of the box.
Rules modding is much better : ability to mod the function of buildings, adding governments as it pleases, future ability to add units as it pleases while it was restrained to 3 in Civ2.
And Firaxians aren't stupid. They worked under a terrible time pressure, that's why the editor was so disappointing out of the box. Mike Breitkreuz doesn't hesitate to mention his preference towards an event editor rather than a scripting language, so I'm pretty sure it's his next objective, after providing a basic scenario editor.

I'd like to make some sort of Fallout Scenario, allowing you to be someof the "civs" from the game & allowing you to have a army of guys in T-51b Power Armor with Miniguns, but that'd require ALOT of modding, most of which I don't know how to do.

Any argument based on "Civ3 scenario making is only 4 patches behind Civ2 out-of-the-box" isn't very convincing.

And don't get me started on Mike's "events".

I would love to play the following scenarios:

1. WW2 Russian Front (Captain Nemo, Alex the Magnificent, where are you?)

2. Modern Day scenario

3. Age of Discovery (on world map, play as a European Power, build up an Empire)

4. 19th Century (again, on world map)

5. Rise of Rome (start out as a single city on a Mediterranean map, and conquer older, more establised civs - Greece, Egypt, etc)

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Alpha Centauri

More seriously, A scenario of the world starting in 1900 (like 20thCentury), Colonisation of the Americas, WWI/II remakes of Eastwind Rain and ww1979, a post ww3 scenario, a Shogun Total War scenario (with the PTW unit sets), Imperial Britain 1850-, and finally somehow, a colonisation of the solar system/stars one.

Hopefully all by August

I didn't intend to say "Firaxis is great" while they're 4 patches late compared to Civ2. I just answered to Darthveda who thinks Firaxis won't let us make more than altered starts. Darthveda is wrong : we'll have true scenario editing tools, it's a matter of time (I know, we must be very patient )
