"I don't want to talk about it" can be construed as a somewhat confrontational (dismissive), even though that was not the intent.

A simple "actually, we had a war with the communists in 19xx, x million died" would have put him off his guard. The conversation would have died right there.

You surrendered and switched sides, or the Soviets would have occupied Finland and taken what they wanted.
It was called "armistance" to save face, but the Soviets took back all the things they had taken in the winter war.

Interesting on how you like to hide behind words, you surrendered and called it an "armistice", the same word the Germans used in WWI (and it sure looked they lost, didn't it? ), and you fought on the German's side with German weapons and allowed German forces in your nation, but you wern't "allied", you were a "Co-belligerent".
