Doesn't really bother me when people take potshots at us. We can dish it out at least as well as we can take it.

In many cases, they're right. We've done some pretty wretched things in various places in the world (including some pretty wretched things right here at home).

We've also done a lot of good.

Like anything though, the bad news gets all the press and the good news goes largely unreported.

How about the ones that you shell out to that have no ABILITY to pay you back? At last count the US had over 30 countries yoked to it who couldn't even pay off their debt interest, never mind the debt itself...

I honestly would rather that all that money was distributed to non-governmental organizations, so it was used to feed people and provide some medical care for them, rather than for some dictators to get their rocks off buying tanks and f16's.

I'm not saying the UK doesn't do it too, hell we're worse than some I could mention, but it seems a little blind of people to do things like Band Aid and not notice that so many countries are struggling under the weight of debts they can never repay.
