	Why do links in sigs generate pop ups? Inflate your Upload Space

In a recent site usability survey it was determined that popups and popunders are one of the most annoying devices ever. Thus it's the latest craze in getting the user's attention.

how about dhtml popups which appear inside the page, "above" the normal text, and stay in front of you even if you scroll the page down?

In fact Im involved in a field called 'notification systems' we know all to well about the annoyance of the pop up. But its annoyance is what makes it grab your attention and see an ad. So if apolyton needs to make cash, we can all live with it IMO. Its not like every other site hasnt started using popups . Poor internet ad industry

Markos, but the fact that there are TWO popups and the fact that other Apolyton pages (non-forum) tend to generate pop-ups too is annoying.

Actually it's any atom not on a lattice site. (i.e. an extra one stuffed in the cracks.) Could be metal, non-metal. May even be the same element as one of the structural components. Its just that its not on a lattice site.

An example would be an "extra" oxygen in Sn4+ doped Indium oxide.

Why are non-poly pages being treated this way. I feel like i should be able to go to other parts of the net without opaying poly for that.

Should I cut and paste the link? Maybe we should tell everybody to put the url and not imbedded links.

You should see the whole thing a little bit more relaxed: Just monitor your task bar and when the pop up window appears, just Alt+F4 and the whole problem is over. Of course you need some training but then you won't close the wrong window.

You live and learn - I thought they were the impurities that caused fissure points between lattices.

Mark, why does the pop-up thing happen when you attempt to use posted downloads?

This ALWAYS seems to happen when I DL saved games from my PBEM games.

Enough of this whining about the very modest use of popups already. Anybody who doesn't like it can go find a paysite of Apolyton quality instead.

Speaking of which - Markos, have you given any thought to have a entire pop and banner free style we could pay for? I'd be happy to do so if prices were reasonable.

And those who feel otherwise can bloody well use popup killers.

I think they have it set to have two popups whenever something is downloaded from the server. No matter if it is an attachment or an Apolyton file.

correct but it's not every time. if you have cookies you wont get more popups when you download stuff (or view a screenshot on full view) for several hours

I suspect that it's not two popups, but that worst of all animals - a spawning pop-up - if you ever wander to the less salubrious parts of the net you will find these little b*ggars - one click and bang - 20 open windows all firing further windows 'on close' _ I'll pay to avoid those....

One of the few nice things about having a slow connection is that you can close the pop up before all the HTML loads and not have to deal with any 'on close' commands.

Markos, is there anyway we can limit the popups when you leave Apolyton from two to one. It is just a lot when whatever site we click on will probably add its own. I mean, I am this close )( to simply making Mozilla disallow all popups. Thanks for considering it.
