24 Civs, or 16? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Will the 8 new civs be in addition to the current 16, allowing a game with 24 civs?

Full PM-box? Change here!

So we can definitely play games with 24 civs at the same time?

Methinks Mark has been privy to some undisclosed information.

I'm a bit tired at this time of the night in Europe
I understood the question as "will the 8 new Civs replace 8 of the old Civs ?". Maybe Mark didn't disclose that much info.
More playable Civs at the same time would be logical though : the computers are better than one year ago, letting Civ3 demand more computing power. Firaxians also stated than the number of simultaneous Civs wasn't an important reason of slowdowns, which is caused by the pathfinder.

I do want 31 civs! What about 255 civs! Then need bi-color civ colors. As football teams uniform.

Why 32?

The system could be designed, if done correctly, to support 100, maybe even a 1,000 civs; but system requirements would be massive.

It will be possible to add Civs in the June editor ! I don't know the limit, but I suppose it will be 32. Just imagine the Civ selection screen if there are 1000

What did you see this? While I haven't read the 9 page chat fully yet, monkspider and MarkG's comments don't cover this, do they? Don't get me wrong, I would love to be able to do this. A lot easier when it happens.

They should have 32 civ slots, or maybe 64, or 128. Only 24 would be filled.

Then there'd be a feature to easily add, edit, and swap custom made civs for the remaining slots.

Put an end to popups!

If there going to increase the number of civs that can play in 1 game above 16, I think they need a little processor checker, that can give the user a quick warning that the game is going to slow down significantly .. (if there are more than 16AI civs) ...

Even with all 32 players (eg) as humans, all those automated workers will exact a heavy toll eventually ..

I personally don't mind waiting for a turn.. but a warning is a must for slow PC's.

hi ,

come on , at the cost of extra ram , ....it has never been that low , that is to buy extra ram , ....also , most comps of the last 7 years can play it without problems , ..

also a good way to get your comp faster , is defragmentation , close stuff that you dont need , update , etc , ....

have a nice day

There can't be too many civs in a game - it will eventually become incredibly slow, not to mention a soon-to-be undecipherable diplomacy screen.

What is needed is more civilization choices.

25 out of 32 are filled (Barbarians use one)

The Save format allows up to 32 civs in a game. But I doubt that they will allow that in the game as people are complaining of long turns with 16 civs.

So we can add 7 of our own favorite civs, right?

I think there should be a way in the editor to easily do this. (or is there?)

You think so? I tried Huge Map/16 civs on my two years old system. While games with 16 civs are more entertaining, reading a book between the turns for 5 minutes in the Middle Ages was no entertainment.

My system is not even a year old yet; it is probably a bit above many others around here, but not the ultra max some have. It can 5 minutes per AI turn at 16 Huge if I wasn't doing anything with the system, had all nonessential programs disabled, turned off all animations and music; and that is on the lower settings of Chieftain and Warlord. At least my system has enough RAM that I have learned to read email, check the various fora, while waiting on the AI.

The old standby: buy more memory, RAM, bigger HD, etc., are possible for all. Some systems require specific upgrades from the manufacturer (which tend to be more expensive than what you can buy yourself)l some people are tech challenged and would have to find somebody to put it in. Some areas are more expensive, esp. for those that live outside of Western Europe and the USA.

Much as I like MAC, the problem is that doing so will limit what I can do with it. I think MAC is a good system, but I am also realist enough to know there are way more programs for Windoze PC's.

Buying a new computer is even less an option for most people than upgrading an older one, so your "Buy MAC next time" is not realistic. I live with the speeds of my computer, the slowness of the game; like I said I do other things while waiting on the AI. That is more an option that buy MAC next time or upgrade that I see so often on the boards. Many others choose not to play the larger maps; I myself tend to limit my time to Standard more, with the occasional Large or Huge.
