They are fast, but stupid. I was driving from San Angelo to Killeen to out-process from the Army, it was late at night with bright moonlight, and I was enjoying a leisurely drive along an empty highway. I spotted a couple of jackrabbits in my lane ahead. No problem, the other lane was empty so I switched lanes and gave them some extra room to boot. Just as I got close to them they started, one sprinting off of the highway, and the other sprinting across the highway and into my lane, where he was instantly dispatched by my rental car. He had so many choices which would have kept him alive, including my favorite - inertia.
