Since many newcomers aren't sure what this game is all about, I'll point them to the topped Government thread.

The Government thread is a bit cumbersome to read and somewhat long (and assumes you already know certain things), so I wrote this one page basic overview for new players. Spiffor also wrote a good summary and it's in the same thread. His is the first section.

Oh, I should mention the overview hasn't been updated for a week or so. As for item #6, there is now a newly created Court that has been empowered to make rulings (mainly about the validity of polls/votes).

I'd update it, but I can't edit someone else's post. President Ninot can, but I think he's pretty busy with the American war and all that.

Welcome to all !

While the game might seem confusing at first, it's much simpler than it looks. I'd like to give you a quick overview of our situation :

- In the Demogame, we are all playing with the SAME civilization, and take decisions commonly. For example, we vote on important matters like declaring war to the Americans, and the majority wins.

- Except this way to take common decisions, the Demogame looks exactly like a standard single player game. We're Egypt, and started in a very crappy location, surrounded with a huge jungle. We just archer-rushed the neighbouring Americans with archers (only after 1.5 month ), to have a big empire despite our starting position.
We're on a big continent with 12 Civs on it, including ourselves. The map looks like this :


You'd probably notice some threads you understand nothing about. Son't worry about them for now. Some intend to amend our rules, some are here for pure roleplaying. If you're not interested in them, just skip them, rather than being bored.
There are tons of threads out there to discuss about the game itself. To be integrated in the Demogame, just do like Trip, NotYouEither, Timeline or other peronalities of Apolytonia : post your opinions wherever you want, ask questions, vote in the polls, help build the Apolytonian greatness by sharing your ideas.

There are parties here, but only 2 major ones emerged, the United Front Coalition, which favors warmongering ; and the Democratic Industrialists of Apolyton, who defent a builder approach (however, both parties agree on the necessity of the war against America)

There was an attempt at creating a communist party, but it seemed to die long ago. If you're interested in the communist party, you should either make one, or revive the previous one.
Overall, you are very free here, and can create any opinion group you want, as long as it doesn't violate Apolyton's rules. But be warned that attracting people in your opinion group isn't as easy as creating it

We'll I'm not gonna swear alliegence just yet, but I'll be hanging around. I've just landed, I'm from Phoenatica (CivFanatic's Demogame) you see. Can I start up a communist party anyway? What about the PSP Party (thats the People Sick of Parties Party) where everyone votes how they like and people are elected on merit?

You can set up another communist party if you want to (that would be the 3rd or the 4th IIRC). You can also set up another "Party Sick of Parties", which has been attempted several time (Unparty, STOP, Independent Party). Maybe you'll be usccessful where the others failed.

This is freakin unbelievable, I have got to join this. A Democracy game, pure genius. Why didnt I look into this sooner. Creating your own parties? Voting? Political & Economic positions? Democracy kicks ass! I find this very intrigiuing considering the limitless possibilities a game such as this has to offer to those who tkae part in it. Sign me up if at all possible.

Don't hesitate to vote in polls and to post your opinions whenever you think it fits.
You can get all information you need about the real game by downloading a save in this thread (current save 750 BC).
Please watch what we've done until now, but don't play the game by yourself. It's our Iron rule, because playing by yourself ("playing ahead") will ruin the surprise. Sorry to forbid you something right away -this is pretty rude from me- but it's our only essential rule.

Anyways, have fun in our utopic Democracy !

Of course now you are expected to play an active part in the game and not just "lurk" as someone else put it.

BTW does anyone know how I disable email notifications after posting. I disable every time I post now but when I first posted here I didn't and have been poly spammed ever since.
