Japan was militaristic for ?? years.
Concessions only fueled their wars.
Only when they were completely defeated, and then re-educated - taught against violence, that they became a peacefull society.
Terrorism is exactly the same, only worse, since it hides among civilians.

Look, you believe what you want.
You refuse to deal with the facts on the ground, and that will bite you on the ass eventually.
The Palestinians are right now brain washed, and after the 18 months long war, blood hungry and desparate.
"This is when you make concessions" you say.

Because they are brainwashed, they will see it as a "victory" and think "terror got us the west bank, let's continue and get more".

You assume that your adverseries are reasonable and logical people.
But guess what? They are not!
Osama is not! Saddam is not! Assad is not! Arafat is not!
First , you remove them.
Then, you begin to solve the problems and appeasing the people.
Every step for the good of the Iraqi/Palestinian/Iranian people that you do, with the terrorist regime remaining, is wasted and only promotes the regime to continue his violent policy.

We were occupying the territories for 20 years. During this time, there were only a few teracts inside Israel and a few plane hijackings.
The Palestinians decided to achieve their goals using violence and started the first Intifada. They were using stones, strikes, and molotovs. After 5-6 years, Israel surrendered to the demands, started negotiating and singed Oslo.
During the next 7 years, the new goverment brainwashed the population, brought thousands of guns, machineguns, missiles, bombs, military knowledge etc. And, yet another step, they opened fire again.
If Israel starts with "more concessions" now, in 10 years people like KH will demand us to give the Galilee.

Very good point KH. Compare and contrast the way the Brits treated the Irish with the way the Romans treated virtually everyone in their empire. Sure there were rebellions against Roman rule - witness the extinction of both the Carthage and ancient Israel, - but on the whole the conquered people learned latin and because Roman citizens. Emperors were elected from all provinces -- and it made no difference if the emperor was of Roman descent. Even after Rome fell, the Eastern Empire did not suddenly revolt and become Greek or Syrian or Egyptian again. They considered themselves Roman and proud of it.
But England, contrast, never treated a conquered people such as the Irish as equals. It had a lot to do with the fact that the Irish were Catholic and the English King was the head of a hostile religion. But the Irish never felt themselves to be part of one country with the British.
Israel could in fact, in my view, take over and absorb the Palestinians into the state of Israel if it behaved more like the Romans and less like the Brits. However, this would require that Israel really become a non secular state with no preferences for Jew over Arab. Otherwise, just like KH said, in the end you will have a hostile Arab population ad infinitum.
