I go for selecting a Civ but for the exact opposite reason Ubercrux mentioned earlier. LOL.

Random. It should make things somewhat interesting. Even if we do end up as England, it should still be good. Any civ can be played very well so long as the players know how.

How about turning "Allow Civ-specific abilities" off?

If we can't do that then I vote to choose a civ. After all, we're voting for our ministers right now, let's vote for our civ too. What would happen if we all voted for peaceful ministers and then we ended up with the Zulus.
