With a 256 x 256 map, the game will easily take a year or more to play. |
So what?
We should make the map as big as possible. And maybe have province governers in the later stages of the game.

I vote for a regular map too. My PBEM experience tells me that to long a game will end just when it gets fun. Now I admit I have no experience with a game like this but IMO more than a year is to much.

Having played demogames before, I can tell you we're probably going to be playing for close to a year anyway. For example, at Civfanatics, we're playing a large map, it's the third month, and we're just starting the Industrial AGe. You only play like 20 turns/week, so it's gonns a take a long time, so we might as well go for the huge. Also, the average person's computer speed isn't relevant as only the President plays the actual game. The rest of us just talk and vote about it.

3 months and Industrial? Doesn't sound too bad. I will be surprised if you haven't finished by the end of the year. |
Yes, but that's still 'close to a year', as I said. Actually, I doubt the President will change too often. Either way, even on a slow computer, 10 turns won't take long, and the longest parts will be making decisions at the turnchats, not the actual playing. In fact, waiting between turns will give a chance for discussion.

I want it to be real huge so we can have the feeling we are playing in a real world, and not just some small compensation. This will give the posibilities of a large number of other civs and therby a more interesting diplomatic game. Also battles gets more interesting, becours they tend to go on for a longer period of time.
