Sirotnikov has all the above , however , asking a daily paper might be a bit to much , maybe some people should work together , ...
then again ; the size of what it is now is good also , everything there , short , not dull , reads nice , in other words "perfect" , .... maybe we have to keep it this way , ...

Well, why not just update the headlines with stuff like:
"The second issue of Apolyton Times is out >click here<"
or "The first chapter of our history is out >click here<"
The thing is, from what I understand, you want a short synopsis. I don't get why would any one really want that? Either he's play, in which case he's interested in reading the newspaper.. or he isn't playing, and in that case he could probably care less.
I imagine me going to read a short news thing:
"We have just democratically decided to research Literature cause the Great Library is great."
..
Whoopee my butt.
It's not interesting to follow a Civ game from afar. It's like watching your friend playing Civ alone. It's much more fun to actually talk to him, see what he's thinking etc. etc.
If someone really cares about the game, he should either follow the newspapers, which have tons of details and are all funny and stuff, or read the chapters written by the Historian.
At least that my POV.
