Should we sell off improvements? (Time out:0 days after 17-06-2002, 04:26)
Yes, sell off all improvements without a function.
Yes, but only on our conquered lands.
Yes but only on our first island
The only thing we sell are Banana's

Selling of improvements Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

In our new teritory's we've found upon taking the city's that our enemy's have build a lot of improvements witch no longer have a function.

I counted 7 aquaducts and 1 Colloseum in places witch we could use very well as engineer factory's.

These are mainly the huge former American and Egyptian city's and Bombay.

These city's are too big for the number of improvements.
We can spend a lot of resources in rebuilding them but as they have little trade I suggest we scale them down.

This will also give us a total of 760 gold

We also have 2 Colloseums and an aquaduct on our first island that could be sold.
By the time they start having a function again we will have exterminated all other civs

But as this is our home island I'm not so sure about this.

We should let grow the new cities that have many irrigated tiles. They will pay for their own improvements soon enough. Any city we beat into village size can part with buildings for gold. I say no selloffs on the home island, tho.

As total conquest seems to be our goal and destiny, improving score does seem a bit of a secondary consideration.

Really, what are the improvements without function ?
Our president did not wait to sell the useless improvements as granaries !
Even if our main goal is conquest, aquaducs are not useless improvements for me : growing for engineers and trade and research is a continuous need !
Aboout collisea, they are expensive in maintenance and not very usefull today : OK for selling them.
In conclusion, the best to be sold are ... bananas !

Could you possibly give us statistics about the cities, the improvements you wish to sell and what negative (and positive) affects this may have?

I don't think I have enough knowledge to vote on this subject..

And one more thing. We've campaigned for this "Workers Paradise" time and time again. Capitalism has been thrown out of the window by the people in favour of giving our people what is best. I would like to know about our tax income, but if its reasonably healthy I see no reason to sell aqueducts. The engineers will presumably re-join their cities after they have been used, and then we will need aqueducts to allow the cities to grow.

Furthermore, colloseams and aqueducts have affects on our demographics, surely? I believe Colloseams affect our Approval Rating and aqueducts increase life expectancy and family size.

It would totally defeat the obstacle to rashly sell everything when we have campaigned and killed for our "workers paradise". We would, basically, be putting these newly-liberated cities into poverty.. is this what we fought for?
