Gandhi Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

I was hoping they would fix this for civ3. Gandhi was never a political leader, he never held any elected office or had any official power. I can't stand seeing him being used as the leader in civ3 like this because most dumb Americans (like me) don't know any other prominant Indians. It makes no sense.

It makes more sense than having Joan of Arc as leader for the French.

I doubt that Firaxis will make another animated leaderhead for India.

Anyhow Gandhi was a great leader for his people and surelly one of the "founding fathers" of what is India today. Heck, Gandhi was considered a leader even by some foreigners. That is more then we can say for most leaders who are really circunscribed to their own countries.

all the best

Feel free to make a few nice suggestions, instead of flaming Gandhi.

Another vote for Nehru. Not only was he a great Indian leader, but he was a strong leader of the Third World and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Well if you are looking for some real leaders for India you would do better to look at the Maurya Dynasty (eg Chandragupt Maurya, Ashoka) or the Gupta Dynasty ( eg Samudragupt in particular). These were the original Great Indian Leaders and not that ass Nehru (Because of whose socialist policies India is still suffering). IMHO Gandhi's choice as a leader is hardly a quarter as good as say Ashok or any from the above mentioned dynasties.

It pains me to see how little people know about ancient India which more or less defines India as a nation and a society. For eg : the oldest known city in the world is not Mesopotamian or Chinese but Indian - found off the coast of Kutch is supposed to be 7000 years old or say Varanasi which is probably the oldest living city (i.e one where people still live).
Oh well life I guess.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Also while I have the stage I would like to point out that whereas some nations have more than one great wonder India has none . I dont think that it is because we have none but more so because they are not publicized enough. Anyway here are a couple of my picks
1. The murals of Ajanta Ellora
2. The university of Nalanda - the first in the world !
http://bihar.nic.in/Depts/Tourism/Nalanda.htm

and many others...
anyway thanks for your time

Yeah, Gandhi should be replaced. Either by Nehru or perhaps an ancient Indian leader? Don't know of anyone off the top of my head though

Gandhi has some merit though. As many other leaders, he's a guy who stands for the independance and unity (well, he failed about unity ) of his nation. Just like Bismark, Joan of Arc, Tokugawa, Shaka etc.
With this in mind, Gandhi (and even Joan ! ) makes sense

Why does he have to be an elected leader. Wasn't he a "leader" enough in the independance movement? (And spiritually as well?)

What about Siddhartha? He founded Buddhism, one of the most widespread and enduring religious movements in history. (iirc he's already one of India's GLs.)

I think Washington should be the leader of America, as he was one of the most important people in American history. Abe Lincoln just happend to be there during the civil war, and just happend to sign a bill to free the slaves to fight for the north.

IMO Washington was a great moral leader. He could rally the troops and had very loyal followers. But he wasnt all that bright when it came to strategy/policy. Thats why I think Lincoln is ideal for both a level of brains and level of integrity. FDR might be a good choice too.

Ghandi and Joan were figurative leaders. and in Ghandi's case, hes popular, thats why I guess.

Abe is cool, but i woulda used one of the Roosevelts. Either one.
