What exactly are the benefits of a military unit being a veteran?
I've never really taken that much notice of it. Am I overlooking something important here?

I think, although I haven't read the rules in a long time, that it confers a 50% bonus to the attack and defense values. I know this is the case in Civ and Civ II, and I believe it was carried into CtP as well.
