It specifically says "Base Rename", right? I've been playing SMAC/SMAX since they came out, and I used to rename bases...took a 3 month break and I can't find it anymore...
At work, will check when I get home.

Just press the r key on your keyboard when you have the base screen open.

I'm at SMAX 2.0. If you can find it, let me know, otherwise I'll just use "r".

I'm with them -- the " RENAME" button is HUGE and is just under the table that shows the allocation of energy.
The only possible solution I can think of is with your screen resolution/ settings. I can recall a time I opened up the game and the screen settings/ resolution or whatever were such that everything on the screen was very very big to the point that the base screen only showed one table (nuts, min, energy) and I would have to toggle that one off to see the energy allocation table ( and the Rename button IIRC).
Oh and the r button worked for me as well. I was not aware of that keystroke method before

I'd care to point out that SMAC comes with two defined resolutions, and that unless you force it definining some parameter in the .ini file, the game chooses the best fit one to your current screen resolution.
Other catch tho, is that chosen resolution does NOT adapt *dinamically*.
Thus, to see the game screen so big that its elements don't fit in the screen, you must have been in one of these cases:
- you work at 800x600 and *willingly* forced SMAC to always run at 1024
- you work at 640x480, and lowest SMAC resolution (800x600) is bigger than that
- you have a SMAC session *OPEN*, and you switch your screen resolution underway: if you start SMAC at 1024 and then switch your screen to 800, the "pixel dimensions" of the game elements drawings have already been determined and fixed in relation to linear dimensions in the previous resolution, and DO NOT get re-adapted. In this case the rightmost and bottom elements of the game screen will fall indeed outside of screen limits, and you won't see them.
But if you switch to 800 *before*, and *then* you "open up" a new game session, that session will regularly & visibly start at 800 (unless you forced it...)
