By the time we've researched iron working, our Archer army will have sprung, that entire area will be ours.

Damn. They're not too close that's for sure. A road to the front will be vital for our archers.

I was hoping we'd find Paris in a clearing on the other side of the swamp.

There could very easily be another civ closer in the area North West or North of Banana HQ.

That distance is normal for a huge map. A road through the jungle would be too expensive, though. I would suggest to walk with the attackers to Paris and after the war let the captured slaves build a road back.

The workers will have plenty of time to build the Gallia Death Highway after they have made the improvements needed for 4 cities with 2 mined tiles each.

After that, all focus would be on war production for a while. They have lots of time.

It should only take 2 workers 14 turns to build road from Red City 4 tiles straight NW towards Paris.

That's 3 turns shaved off the march from Apolyton to the Gallian plains.

/Edit. Sorry, that's 21 turns to build 6 tiles of road. Still 3 turns shaved off the march.

We need 2 workers to make Apolyton and the satellite cities productive and to dig Banana HQ (was Thebes) out of the jungle. We can't afford another worker now. Maybe Banana HQ can build another one, when the 2 city garrisons are ready (I had this as option).

I agree that BHQ should get two productive tiles first.

The grasslands around Apolyton should also be improved.

Then the road can and should be built.

Agree with a city near the base of those mountains, either as a staging area for the invasion or to get access to any iron in the mountains (or both).

We may need to build some cultural improvements there, though, lest we want to fall victim to culture-flipping.
