	Which had you heard of first, conquastidor or tercio? Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Before this intire fanasco of how the conquastidor should be the tercio, which of the two had you heard about?

I myself had never heard of the Rider (w/respect to the Chinese) until Civ III came out.

I had never heard of the tercio before this, either, but I think it's a better idea than the conquistador. The conquistador, if they use it, should be something of a scout-type unit. I don't think conquistadors ever fought against Spain's European rivals. (Notably, they did fight against the Aztecs.)

Why don't we ask the Spaniards, actually?

I also never heard of the Tercio before this. But curiously enough, the Tercio won the "who should be the Spanish UU ?" poll in the SPANISH Civ3 forum.

Someone said about this matter : "if Europeans had made the game, the American UU would be the cowboy". I don't see why Firaxis should put what everyone has heard about... After all, I didn't hear of the Impi before Civ3 came out.

The Conquistador is definitely more well known, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it should be included. I hadn't heard of the tercio until Civ3, but it seems like a legitimate unit.

(About the rider: It sucks as a unit and Firaxis should have been able to come up with something better for the Chinese. You'd think that if a civ has been around for as long as China that they'd have some decent military units )

I heard of the Conquistador first, but never considered that to be a UU. It's a name for what they did, not a military unit description.
For China, I would have chosen the Mandarin except that it doesn't fit into the game mechanics.

Never heard of tercio until know. Think most people know conquistadors from so many different place. Pretty sure I heard them in some movie too.

Never heard of the conquistador until I got into Colonization a year or so back. Then an image of it based on the AOE2 XP Conquistador came to mind (until I read a bit of history about it).

Never heard of the Tercio until it was mentioned in these forums.

I guess that means the Conquistador is the one I heard of more, yet the Tercio is definitely a much better idea.

I don't think the Conquistador should be the UU because from what I can tell, it will replace the knight. That's right, another knight replacement.

so they're debating whether to still let the spanish build regular cavalry...

No tercio before, just conquistador. But, as Ribannah said, not as a specific military unit. All spaniards in the new world were conquistadores.

I think that Civ3 is a game, and thereby fantasy. So I like the Conquistador. I wouldn't mind having a Cowboy either...and I'm an American.

It should be a Tercio, just because a Conquistador UU just doesn't fit into the game mechanics.
