Open Letter to Mr. Moral Hazard, Editor Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Dear Mr. Hazard:

I hope this letter finds you well. And, I hope you do not mind me writing directly to you, I feel this way is best for my safety as I do believe I am still being pursued by the Imperial Guard. Though I have not actually seen any person at all in many weeks. As I may have mentioned in previous correspondence, the monkeys have assisted me in finding ways to remain unseen, since that fateful night when I was forced to flee Apolyton Village and head into the Great Jungle, which, by the way, appears to be never ending.

I have been travelling, mostly to the North, and had crossed the Jungle River weeks ago, it was a fast moving river and crossing was a bit treacherous. Using two fallen bamboo trees, and some banana peels, I rigged a bridge to cross it, which did collapse as I was nearly across. Several of the monkeys threw vines down for me, and I was able to catch one to climb to safety.

After moving North for some days, the jungle became denser and I longed for some sunshine, so I headed back to the Jungle River. We then continued along the river, which I beleive is moving roughly to the West, and came across a rather steep cliff, which caused the river to create a beautiful and wondrous sight. The water of the river fell two or three bamboo tree heights onto the rocks below, where the river gathered itself and continued its trek across the jungle. But as the water crashed onto the rocks an arc of color was formed where the sun caught the splashing water. I had never seen anything like this in all my life, and decided to spend my time here for several days.

Using some vines tied together, I climbed down the cliff to camp out at the bottom of the "water falling". Most of the monkeys did not seem interested in staying with me, and headed back into the jungle. From what I could tell, beyond the "water falling", the population of banana vampire bats decreases significantly which is why the monkeys went back. With the decreased bat population in mind, my hope was that perhaps the jungle would contnue to thin as I went West along the River, perhaps lead to the coast. Only two monkeys remain, my messenger who greets you once again ( I hope) and his female companion.

As we began our trek along the river, we did encounter an usual smaller animal, that walked on all fours. I had not seen one before, it was clearly a meat eater and a hunter, so I was apprehensive at first to get too close. We continued around it, and it seemed to follow us, but not as if it was hunting us. I left some bat meat for it, as we moved past some fallen banana trees, and it ate it greedily. It continued to follow us. After several days of this, I decided to approach it (with a sharpened stick in one hand and some bat flesh in another), I walked up to the animal. It sniffed and then its long hairy tail began to rapidly move back and forth, this action seems to mean friendship to the animal. It ate what I offered and then began to lick my hands. It has stayed with us since. It, Dog I call him after my cousin Dognacious, has come in quite helpful as he has a nose for food, and also is rather agressive, like UberKrux and his warriors, when potentially dangerous animals come near.

Such is the make up of my current travelling party. ...

Well, much to my contentment, the river did empty into the sea, and we have started moving along the coast, travelling north. In the distance I can see a rather ominous looking mountain range, it will probably take some time to reach them. In front of the mountains, there appears to be a a break in the jungle, perhaps grassland, perhaps desert. I can not tell from here. But there is a definite end to the trees just in front of these Dark Mountains.

In this whole time, I have not seen one human being, and am glad of it. This includes Dr. Plaguerat, I hope no ill has come to him. Please advise once you have a chance to write back, and if he is lost, I will immediately start a search for him.

As I said, we have not encountered any humans, but I did find a deserted village, and it appears that the Warrior group had been through there just prior to our arrival. The village had been ransacked, I suppose the warriors were looking for something of value. There did not appear to be anything, though, in fact it looked to me as if the people who inhabited this village had moved on from this spot. I guess it is not a very pallatable place to reside. I slept there one night before I continued, and I must say, it was nice to sleep under a roof in nice comfortable reed bed.

I must report that my photo of Ms. Klum has unfortunately disintegrated. If you have others of her or any other beauty, it would be greatly appreciated. If possible, could you also send some tools, perhaps some type of cutting instrument. I am thinking that I could cut up some of the thicker tree branches and construct a floating device with the cut branches tied together with vines or banana peels and then, the gods willing, speed my way to the Mountains.....

I thank you for your sending me the eating utensils, they did work well. Though, now that we have seen less and less bats, I am strictly on a diet of bananas and tapioca. Tapioca is a root, and if I grind it up with a rock it makes a very tasty treat. My monkey friend has delivered some to you, along with this letter (assuming he did not eat it all).

Oh, by the way, while in the deserted village, I did see some writings indicating a new village has sprung up with some of our citizens, but why did they call it Banana HQ? Is it now the capitol of our civilization? Did Apolyton get destroyed? Is Banana HQ some kind of military installation? Could our military be that big already? If Apolyton is still a viable community, then I must question the intelligence behind the person who came up with the name. Would not Banana Village, Bananaville, Banana Proper, Banana Harbor, Banana Rama, Banana On Sea, or some other name have made more sense? Oh well, one thing I have learned things don't always make sense when left for men to decide.

I look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you again for receiving my letters.

I remain,

jdjdjd

Rather impressive, considering we haven't even discovered Writing yet. Did you discover this yourself, like you did the floatation device?

By the way, have you seen any other traces of this quadripod you found, known only as "Dog?" Does it make a good meal?

No we haven't, but given your response we must have at least discovered reading, so there's a start. I think your jealous of my floatation device, well you can't have it not for all the bananas in the jungle. Then again, if you could get me all the bananas in the jungle, we can talk.

Sorry, no other Dogs, though I expect to see a cat in the near future.
