An average of 18 attacks per day on Jews in Western Europe alone since September 11.

Rather sobering statistics - tabulated by a Jewish organisation but not disputed by civil authorities. Most of the attacks, either against Jewish people or property, have been by muslim immigrants but neo nazis and others are getting in on the act.

There are only 1.1 million Jews in Western Europe today.

Jews in Europe are paying a high price for the actions of the Israeli Government against the Palestinians. There have even been a few attacks in Australia.

Its very sad to see the resurgence of anti-semitism in Europe. You can just imagine what Hitler would be saying about it.

what are the stats for the U.S.?

I'm sure they are pretty low, but these things can range from petty vandalism to sexual assault. That is a wide range of crimes.

18 attacks per day? Sounds bad.. but then again Europe is not a small place, so i think many other groups gets more.. not meaning it's ok of course.

edit: What qualifies as an attack? I began to thought that maybe verbal attack doesn't include . Should be more spesific what kind of attacks are included.. and some source. Not saying these don't happen..

What where the attacks before? Did they change the way they measure these attacks.. What "crime" is included for it to be called an attack.

Without further details that's just a meaningless statistic. A mugging or assault doesn't turn into an act of anti-semitic violence simply because the victim is jewish.

IIRC US hate crime stats pre-9/11 have 1500 or so antisemitically motivited acts per year. They don't cover the entire US though, and I do not fully understand their standards.

I mean, there is no indication on this statistic whether or not these attacks are racially motivated or not. Do attacks on other races not matter to you?

If the number of attacks on anyone are x per day and Jews make up y% of the population, then is x*y/100 << 18????

this sort of scaremongering without any sort of statistics to back it up really pisses me off!

Those statistics usually only count racist/antisemitic/homophobic/whatever motive. Of course there's a lot of discretion in this, so I wonder who came up with the figures, and how.

They don't seem implausible.
