I agree with Ren. Maybe it is OK for native speakers, but after first sight I supposed you could speak about all squares in the city perimeter.

As a rather skilled native speaker, I fully agree. The first time I built a supermarket I was pretty darned disappointed to find out that the obvious meaning wasn't the author's meaning. The wording should be changed to something like "the city square of every city" rather than "every city square."

The use of the term "city square" should not be confusing. It is a term of convention we all use to mean the center square, the one with the Palace.

Still...sorry if you were confused.

Communication is a miracle if you think about it. The writer has an idea and picks words to represent or stand in for that idea. Until we can learn to be telepaths we will have to muddle through with our current system that basically is a substitute. Words are substitutes.

Actually, I agree - there is distinct ambiguity - we often speak of enemy units encroaching upon city squares, when we mean within the city radius - it is natural for us (at least the natural English speakers) to short cut to reduce the large amount of redundancy our language contains - when in fact that very redundancy is that which gives it clarity when expressed correctly
