It looks like even the big tourneys are slowing down, so I am proposing a quick, easy-to-set-up game with no CMN.
To accelerate the game without a CMN, each player gets two factions which can communicate and trade tech etc right from the start. The factions are in play order, so you will take the turns of two factions and then e-mail to the next player. The 7th faction will be controlled by the AI (and will probably have a negligable impact on the game).
Map: Ultimate Builder's Map, because of widely dispersed and well-balanced start sites. Unity survey option on, because map is publicly known.
Options: All victories, cooperative on, restart on, no spoils.
Rules: Apolyton Tournament rules EXCEPT stockpile energy is allowed (to accelerate game). No communication until contact is made.
Factions:
Peacekeeper-Gaian: This will be me (DilithiumDad; pre@po.cwru.edu), the game starter. I will start, select a Gaian password, and send the move on to the next player, who will then choose thier own password:
Hive-University: Flubber (sharris4141@yahoo.com)
Morgan-Spartan: Chaunk (mj_blakemore@uk2.net ; sends turn back to game starter)
Believers: AI faction

Good to see the quick start-up for this game-- The Hiversity hope to provide adequate opposition in this game-- I don't yet see the turn but thats no suprise since you probably sent it in the last 10 minutes or so

Chaunk is out UNTIL the 7th and I am out AFTER the 7th so we'll have to pick it back up on the 12th.

Normally, these early moves are a bit boring, but I think controlling two factions in communication makes these early moves more meaningful. What about you two? Is this experiment a success so far?

Yes it does make the early game both more important and more exciting. I have done several 2 faction games and enjoy them a lot. I have even done a couple of three faction duels with northswordsman. In our latest we each got to chose one faction for ourself and then 2 factions for your opponent and then we had blind research which really screws up research coordination.
In the multi-faction game I think from now on I will stick with directed research

I was not aware that there were other 2-faction games on this board --what were their names?
Part of the advantage is that we don't need a CMN, so any number of these games can be started, as players become interested!

hmmm they are not on this board except for one-- I believe every other time they were just 2 players involved so posting just seemed to be a burden. Currently I am in a two faction duel with qantaga with the twist that we each have an alien faction and I am in a 3 faction duel with Northswordsman ( we selected one facation each for ourself and then had our opponent select the next two in a draft style) its my uni-spartans-pirates against his drones-cult-believers.
The one that in on this board with the same format is Captain Yang's Crusade involving myself, darius and johndmuller with setup by googlie IIRC. Our opponents got to select our factions for us ( with each player allowed to name one faction they just did not want to be saddled with)-- so I am morgan-gaia against PK-cult and angels-cult teams

Chaunk is dropping out of his games as of this weekend. So, the Morgospartanites will be played by Brian Burns:

I think this will be Chaunk's last turn. Thanks for the orderly transition and finding your won replacement, Chaunk! You're a gentleman and a scholar!
