	Civ3 Demo Game Website Remove this text

As [some of] you know, Trip has created a website for the Current Game Information. I was thinking that we could expand this concept further, by making a real website with information etc. We could have a contest to see who could make the best site. What do you think?

I'm going to split up the front page I think, since it's starting to get crowded, and all the images may be a little rough on 56k users.

Actually, we could just use that person's design, and then have one of the ministers (possibly the VP?) handle it, or whoever wants to and can.

i would propose also handling the citizen registry in there and not in the forum
maybe a poll-registry and group/party registry would also work and de-clutter the forum?

Yeah, and clutter up the website.
Seriously, it seems to me like the political stuff is better suited to the forums (unless party whips wanted to set up their own web pages).
I know it makes the forum crowded and noisy. But politics should be.

i did not talk of having them post there, just a kind of index, with membership list and leader, maybe candidate list and a "election progam".

Well, if people give me good, well thought out ideas for things to put on the site, then I'll be glad to add it when I get the chance.

a) a citizen registry with the possibility to easily add information like:
* apo-name
* chat-name
* in-game city the citizen lives in
* email
* real-life country
* real-life age
* in-game function (like for example president)
* in-game group- and party membership
this registry should also give out statistics if requested, like citizens per city, citizens per country,... so a database should be in the background

the citizen should be requested for a password the first time he enters the data, and then it should be possible for the citizen to edit his data by entering his password at any time. it should also be possible for him to edit the password.

b) zoomable map of our lands. as our map will get really big we will have problems showing our lands in only 1 pic. so zomming in and out will be necessary. maybe we could even click on cities to get detailed city information like build queues.

Sheeze, I do have a life you know (just barely).
I could do the part about cities with an imagemap, but updating things like that every turnchat would suck me dry of all life. Besides, I would be more willing to do that if people didn't have access to the save file and couldn't actually find it themselves.

One thing I do plan on doing is having a large full map of our area (already done), and you'll be able to click on certain cities to zoom in on that area (maybe later). I don't have access to the site at the moment though, so I'll update it when I get the chance.

Okay, updating the NEWEST version of the site, which is much more organized and 56k friendly than the first version.

And it's still a work in progress... I'm not sure what to work on with it next, maybe I'll come up with some ideas or someone else can while I'm on my trip (no pun intended ).

Hi all. I am a civ3 fan and have always used Apolyton for news and stuff on civ3. I noticed this Demo Game a little while ago and am facinated about it and am wanting to get involved. I just signed up in the top thread.

I am a web designer, and am willing to offer my services to this community. I can design the site, and use special PHP scripts (like those that run these forums) to manage the website. It would make everything much easier and quicker to manage. The members list would be kept in a database and could be used to run polls, elections and for general info on the website. I have a few websites on the net, eenc.net, aomgamer.com and i2media.net (my design company) to name a few. I am willing to commit my time to it. I can make a mock-up of my ideas if you wish.

I would like to know what everyone thinks.

Sounds like a good idea, jordie.

On another note, I think it should be noted that since the 1.21 patch, it is no longer necessary to zip savefiles, AFAIK.

A very good site, Trip. Really great to be able to get the information without the need to go to a jungle of threads.

Heh, yeah those screen shots are kind of hard on us poor 56k users I suggest using 1/4 size thumbnails of them rather than putting the full size ones directly on the screen shots page
