Question- United Nations Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Need help with something pls...On the turn that I built the United Nations, I was given the option to vote for Secretery-General and said no. Now after a few turns and bribing a couple nations, I want to hold a vote. What do I do to activate that option again?

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

You have to wait. Elections are hold every 20 turns, I believe.

Got spare money?

be carefull though, if the vote goes against you:
GAME OVER!!!

if your leading the pack, try to win in a differant way.
Only use the U.N. when desperate

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Thanks. I just thought there would be a button like in Alpha Centauri where at least I could to attempt to hold an election. Plus before the patch, I remember a popup coming up every turn for this. I'll have to admit that was pretty annoying but it kinda sux that I now have to wait for the game to ask me again after 20 turns.

just a point here : has anyone thought that Diplomatic victory as it is implemented in civ3 (i've never played civ2 or civ1) is way out of being realistic? Is today's Secretary General's country a leader in our world? Or even worse, do u realy think that UN has power over other kinds of coalitions like NATO or the G.8 ?

NO, but Ghana is a leader in the West African sub-region.

Its the UN that is controlled by the US and other NATO coutries so, no. The UN in Civ3 is rediculous. The UN should serve as a SMAC style planetary council. Maybe there should be another great wonder "Global Alliance" or something who's leader runs the world.

It is 10 turns. On an off note, I've noticed that if the AI builds the UN, they never call elections. Is it just me?

Just you...

Those bastards beat me once (I was playing Romans) when I already thought the game would be pretty easily won, as I was dominating the whole world. Ick... "The Persian city of Persepolis built the UN wonder", elections held. Xerxes receives majority of the votes. Game over. Man, I hate UN from that time on and I do everything I can to build it myself (usually just preventing the election from taking place)

Election option interval:
In my last game (1.17, Macintosh), I recorded the years of the election option. Strangely enough, it was ELEVEN years!

There is no precise frequency. In one of my Regent games (a long time ago ) I built UN and refused to call for a vote. During more than 20 turns after, nothing new. Then, I got a new proposal every turn.
I think it is more related to the civs. Except the civ that builds the UN, a civ must reach certains criteria to be candidate.
