we often get questions about using the files: from the "how do i open this file" to "why do i get that error", and so on
if someone could help create a guide to using files with simple instructions along with a faq to common questions, it would be wonderfull
so, who's interested?

I'd be interested - heck, that can't be too hard to do eventhough I haven't much experience in downloading Civ files myself. Plus, with all the things Apolyton has done for me and my enjoyment of the game, I suppose it would be nice to be able to give something back, even in this small fashion.
There's just one catch: It won't be until the second week of October when I'm back from my vacation, as I'm leaving this Sunday. Would that be all right MarkG? In the meantime, maybe you could mail me some of your thoughts on the format of it, the amount of text you expect - and perhaps some examples of the questions you get. Or is a month from now too long a wait?
Edit: Make that PM me instead of mail me, as I won't be able to check my mail, much less reply to it, while I'm away.

WarVoid,
We'd have to talk a bit more about this after October 5th when I'm back at my home computer. Right now I'm in the States on vacation, and I have to make use of Internet cafes for visiting Apolyton. And those cafes aren't easy to come by, let me tell you! But we should definitely talk.
MarkG,
Any thoughts on the time perspective of the first half of October for this?

No - not much of a queue forming here... But ok MarkG, when you get the time, you should mail me a little more information on what you're looking for. I'll then see what I can do once I'm back home.

The thread dropped to page two... do you still need an FAQ on how to download and use files, or has it been taken care of already? I'm home now, you know...

i might as well let you know what exactly i'm thinking of...
basically, it's common questions and their answers
it should start from the categorization of files(see the description under each category at http://apolyton.net/civ2/files)
next to which are the versions of civ2, what is civ2.62 and what is FW, etc
then to the whole process of downloading the file, geting winzip if needed, unziping, placing on the right directory, reading the damn readme , starting a game with a scenario/map/whatever, etc etc
yes, in case you're wondering, we get every single kind of question you can imagine, as simple as it might be!
what do you think??

What do I think? I think your description of what you needed with the FAQ was just what I needed! I'll try to cook something up this weekend and mail it to you, kind of like a draft. Then you can see if this is what you're looking for.
