It took me a while to nut out my Civ strategy. It turned out to be remarkably simple. I make a serial pest of myself. End result: "For goodness sake, go and play Civilisation or something!"

Of course, as you know, Mrs finbar isn't of the physical and/or verbal abuse ilk. Ergo, my tactic might not work in certain other households.

You know what really really sh*ts me? I only polished up my cooking skills as a means of having her say: "What a delightful dinner! You've sated my gastronomic needs such that I'll do the dishes while you whip off and play some Civ with your chums!".

The reality is, she - her gastronomic needs sated - passes out on the couch for a kip leaving me to do the dishes - having already slaved over the stove for 3 hours - before I sneak upstairs, turn down the computer's volume, and cross my fingers one of Hydey's nuclear strikes doesn't wake her.

I have been known on the odd occasion, from time to time, to wish I had the technical expertise to hack into Hydey's Civ software and delete his nuclear - that's new-queue-lar, for our American lads and lasses who listen to their President - option, but that's just me.
