Ok, I goofed, I already have Gauls.

However, here are some things I want to do to this mod to make it better.

First, I would like to change the leaders to those who were in power in the time of the Roman Empire.

Also, I've been tinkering with the sounds for many of the early units such as Warriors, Archers, and Legionarys. Mostly taking sounds from the movie Gladiator and replacing the ones in the game.

However, I still need to work out the timing, since they play too fast (I have the right audio quality).

Below is an up to date list of units and their Latin names. I know I provided one with the game, but this one will be easier to maintan and I won't have to keep uploading text files.

And remember: "There is always someone else to fight."

Full PM-box? Change here!

IIRC, a quick grammatical point regarding Elephantus bellum:

I would have translated it either Elephantus bellicus or Elephantus bello.
One is "War (adj. nominative) Elephant" and the other is "Elephant of War" (dative of purpose).

Your translation is War (noun) Elephant (noun), which doesn't really make sense to me, but of course my Latin is a bit rusty. It would be helpful just for me if you'd explain your rationale.

Also, a more common word for elephant is barrus, or barrinus.

This was just the example that I chose, but I think that some of your other translations might face similar issues.

This is why I asked for help. Thank you. My ending are rusty as well.

I made some spelling errors, particularly with the Russians. So I will change it and upload a new version ASAP tomorrow (which will be 08/27/2002). Your suggestions will be added in it as well.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

A notice about chaning unit names. I found that changing the Worker, Settler, Army, Leader units tends to make the game crash every now and then for me. I don't know about anyone else, but be forwarned.

Just a reminder:
Always remember to find some extra HD space and just make back up copies of all the units (if you have a CDR drive, burn them). This will make fixing mistakes if you didn't copy the folder first and then rename the copy. I learned this the hard way.

Cataphractus might be a better translation for horseman also, though they were heavily armored.

Lanciarius is a great suggestion. Thanks Marcus.

Ballista, ae is a first declension femenine noun in the singular.

In 2.1, I fixed some spelling. Particulary Russia and Greece. I also translated "Bissy's" tital (I must have skipped it).

I'm looking if anyone found a latin word for Japan. None of my books have it (only china, FYI: Roman fought the chinese once, but had the same prob as Alexander when it come to expanding beyond India).

I also included another bic file called Imperial Government. It's a work in progress gov that I want to add to the game, but don't want it added directly to the latin mod just yet, mainly because I'm trying my best not to change too much of the rules.

Let me know what you think of it.

I need some time for your unit translations. THey are all very good, and my books are only good for so much. I tried to talk to my Latin teacher a while back when I was first starting this for some help, but only teaches from the book. It doesn't know what SPQR really stands for.

I'll work on the unit list post by this comming monday (VIII/XXVI/MMI)

I'm very greatful for the input. And it's totaly welcome. Feel free to change the unit translations for yourselves if you wish. That is one of the reasons I didn't add the folder and *.ini files.

If you read the text accompanying the map it mentions the Latin word for Japan. I then cross-referenced this a couple of other places.

EDIT: Because I can't find it in any of my books. Does anyone know the declension Iapon belongs to if any? I need to know the Noun/Adj before I make the update. Thank you.

I believe the Latin name for Japan doesn't come from the Romans, but is more a scientific term from the Rennaisance. I even found a list somewhere with latin names for cities that didn't even exist until the latter part of the middle ages, or later.

3rd declension Iapon, is.

Marcus- That's highly likely as all cartography and scientific writing in Europe was done in Latin through the Renaissance. I am sure that they came upon new things that they needed to create names for in Latin.

That is what I was thinking. There is no latin word for the Russians, but a tribal name south west of present day moscow.

If I recal, when the Romans were attacking the germans, the germans were being attacked from behind. I'm sure if this group was Samartia, but it would look like it on the map (Prelude to WWII? )
