Anyone up for a new SMAC PBEM game?
I'm thinking 5 players max.
No newbies.
Only players that won't go on vacation in the near future, and will push turns on a regular basis.
Apoly tourney rules.
Large or Huge Planet.
Max # of players for co-op victory = 2.
No blind research.
Extra colony pods and scouts to start.
If interested, leave your email.
Also, CMN needed as well.
I'll go UofP.

very well, large planet.
so far we have:
smh=gaians
smart-morgan
comstr=pks
one or 2 more needed.
p.s. do u want to eliminate the ai? this way it'll be just us humans.

if we all move fast, then it won't be necessary for new pods. i'll open the thread now.

I propose these settings, but I'm open to suggestions.
Large, Random map
Erosion, Native Life, Clouds - average
Oceans - 30-50% map, maybe a little more
Game settings:
All victory conditions are on
Look First: On
Tech Stag: Off
Spoils of War: Off
Intense Rivalry: Off
Directed Research (pick your own techs)
No Unity Survey (map not visible)
Pods are scattered
No Random Events
Time Warp: Off
Iron Man: On (doesn't matter in PBEM)
Rules:
• Communications - None until in-game contact, obtain commlink, or build EG
• SE switch "quickies" forbidden - (obviously you can experiment to see what effect various SE choices have, but cannot change, play moves, then change back in the same turn)
• Council notification - immediate broadcast to all players (Post in the thread and e-mail to all immediately by player who has called elections, citing candidates and votes. After each player's turn, post in the thread the running totals)
• Do not place Stockpile Energy in your build queues
• Crawlers Upgrade anytime - OK
• Probe actions: Must choose vendetta option when probing other players, unless you have previously gained permission to probe by e-mail.
• You cannot bribe the AI on council votes nor to demand withdrawal of units
• Cannot use the right click feature for multiple drop moves to extend range (ie limited to 8 tiles unless owning the Space Elevator SP)
• Cannot use the 'set waypoint' feature for automatic worm hunting/lifecycle enhancements
• No accepting pending treaties/pacts *after* declaring vendetta in the same turn
• Cannot use the F4 feature (or the bases feature of the F2 screen) to change an infiltrated faction's workers to specialists.
* You cannot trade bases with the AI. It is okay to gift a base to the AI.

I would like 4 scouts and an extra pod at the start?

hmmm... 2 extra pods for uni means 2 extra network nodes too. And I know how good Flubber is already.
So maybe it is best if we just start off regularly, with no extra stuff.

I'll play extra stuff or not-- either way is fine

so that sounds fine to me -- but I think you overestimate my abilities

I agree with the part in brackets but find the main text of this rule to be a bit too restrictive. As it reads, if I get an unsolicited pact offer that my opponent has already " accepted", I am precluded from examining my empire before deciding. That does not seem right. I agree that you should not abuse diplomacy by taking offensive action and then accepting a friendly status but . . . if you take no offensive action, you should have the freedom to decide on a deal when YOU want.
Edit for other points on rules
I suggest
No using demand withdrawal or attempting to bribe human players in the council screen-- In both cases the AI determines a major point on behalf of a human
we clarify on the issue of upgrades-- are other upgrades allowed anytime or just crawlers

you're right flubber, i'll take out the first part. i prefer checking out my empire first too.
i agree with the no demand withdrawl or accepting bribes in the council screen.
as for upgrades any time, what's the bug on that again?

there is no bug except that you can upgrade units and then use them in the same turn if you use the design workshop while upgrading an individual unit uses up its turn. Some people feel it is a bug while some others feel it is a feature that upgrading a whole class of unit does not use up a movement turn .
I have played games each way and am comfortable playing either way although disallowing DW upgrades is the more common rule in games I have played. I kinda like some of the possibilities that arise when insta-upgrade and use are possible but it can really amplify the prospects for a suprise attack as you have to defend not only what an opponent HAS but what they COULD HAVE

Thanx KK,
Yup, those are the settings. More water would be nice. I was thinking you could start off with a random map at 30-50% ocean, then cut around the continents with water to create more space between players.
Also I believe it's no AI, so having a continent for each faction, should be okay.
Thanx again KK.
Oh, and Flubber, I think we should allow upgrades at anytime too.

I thought they said no AI as in eliminate it but I could be wrong-- Frankly I'll play any way-- its fun how the game is different depending on how you alter some of the stuff

Yeah, I said eliminate the AI earlier somewhere. Personally, I'd like all the SPs up for grabs for the human players.
And it'd be nice to have an all human game.
