Trenches would look cool, especially if they were drawn on the map like roads like HazieDaVampire said. By that I mean, not just little icons in every square, but have them wind across the landscape, several lines of trenches would criss cross eachother. Also, they are probably something that should be made by infantry (best if done in a mod) or at least a non-population engineer unit.
Also, back to the general topic of bombardment, how exactly is that calculated? Isn't the bombard attack used like a regular attack and put against the target's defense value? Plus, isn't RoF the number of times it'll attack (thus, maximum number of HP's that can be taken)?
I.E. Artilelry attacks infantry; becomes 12 A vs 10 D battle, and the dice will be rolled twice, so the artillery could take away 2, 1 or 0 HP.
Is this how it works? I, like a few other people here, have been kind of confused about it, not to mention disapointed when I've used bombardment.

Trenches sounds pretty good, but every time I hear of new ideas, especially unit-related (mine own included), I fear that this might make the game less civ-ish, cause, IMO, we need to keep Civ what it is, Civ.
Zulu, re: your radar artillery, who cares if it needs three resources? While I've often lacked resources early on, I've never lacked Oil or Aluminium.
