War Academy: Chariot Road question Support Apolyton

Hey all, I won't be around to debate this but I wanted to put it out there.

Originally posted by notyoueither in another thread, I hereby open this proposal to analysis by our acclaimed War Academy.

esp. I want to get Sir Ralph's opinion as he is our Academy's leader.

quote:
What about a road linking Apolyton with Blue City and Banana HQ? 2 tiles of jungle.

Then 2 or 3 more tiles of jungle brings us to New York. By the time we launch Eagle, the Americans will almost certainly have linked New York with Washington.

4 o4 5 tiles of jungle links our growing empire for troop movements and brings dyes to the capitol.

I'd have to say that I like the idea.

Not sure how it effects chariots though. For later campaigns archers are a better bet due to the shear amount of jungle, whether we are attacked or are attacking.

However, the road would triple the movement of either war chariots or archers, so it's good for either.

I was wondring the TIMING of this road. Is it to be done after the useful tiles are already upgraded, or are we to divert resources to the road.

It would even speed settlers to the new lands.

I think that this could actually work... we'd have to have 2 roaded/mined tiles within Termina, Apolyton and Blue City in order to allow for maximum efficiency, but after that, then probably a road would be very beneficial.

I assume we'd upgrade enough tiles to put our four core cities into production mode (as orginally planned in Case Pink) before roading to Banana hq (and eventually, points north.) Judging from the savedgame, we're pretty far along on that already.

The faster we can move our units into the battlefield the better. I am leaning towards this plan.

Yes RB. That was my assumption. Finish the base 2 per city improvements first, then build the road. I think they may still be building the road when we take NewYork, but never underestimate industrious workers.

Sounds like a very good plan. Good work, Captain, and worthy of a staff member of our War Academy! I will cross-check your plan and try to make some maths as soon as I get home from work and have access to the save and the map. Now that we have horses, we could use our UU.

The only thing that bothers me is, do we really want to have a GA so soon? With poorly developed cities this is near to nothing.

It would have been a killer way to crush one of our neighbors if it weren't for that jungle...

This is a great point. I think we need roads. Roads will be bennificial to the war effort but on using war chariots I am not so sure.

Should we not include a worker as part of the queues for Plan Eagle or whichever warplan has been chosen? I agree with building a road towards NY, at the same time an extra worker to continue developing our lands, perhaps build the road faster and or keep a secure amount of laborers is crucial. We may also at some point want to build roads towards France, to trade reources, luxuries with them, though this is in the future.

I don't think the Egyptians can build horsemen. IIRC, in the latest patch it was taken out of the upgrade path for WCs.

Horsemen cost 30 shields, though, as opposed to 20 for an Archer or War Chariot. Can we really afford to use such an expensive unit? Time is not on our side.

I'm against using War Chariots. For one thing, we might not be able to use them in our next war; also, this is way too early for a GA IMO. Go with Archers, or, if it turns out to be a possibility through some miracle, Horsemen.

True. But wait'll round two with our hapless foe, once we've ramped up production on his former territory.

Agreed. I say once the pressures of waging our first war are over, we build a few and store them in a city, so that we can trigger our GA later, in the medieval age.

I could not make it yesterday, sorry.

I think we should keep this plan till after our archer rush. We would need at least 15 turns with both workers to build the road. We need our workers now to make our cities productive. After this, BananaHQ should be connected (part 1 of the road). Hopefully, our raid yields some American slaves, that can start to build part 2 from the other side. That would be the way out for our War Chariots

But I would not consider to change the current plans.

Suffering from ads?

Agreed. The current plans stay. The "Chariot Road" as it has been called is definately an afterthought for the war with amercia.

after all, our archer attacks will leave us with Washington and maybe New York, at the very least, and a road network there is essential anyway. Depending on the geography of the areas around it, Chariots may be useful... maybe not. The option is there.
