Menu.TXT Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Note: This has been declared a free zone due to the increased chance of its occourance.

Anyway....

Why did Firaxis not use MENU.TXT as its normal menu? It would have been so much better, but they chose not to. Menu.txt is in the TEXT folder.

Obviously things from here were programmed for it, because all you have to do is look at it: Science advisor? Wonders of the World? That would be Labrotory Status and Secret Projects respectively. Obviously some things were not completed (drone riots? although if you look in either the strategy guide or the instruction manual, you can find a picture of a city in disorder.....with that red face next to it?)

Why did they abandon this? I personally would have loved it. It would have opened options for a more powerful scenario editor. Obviously Civ3 was based on AC, so why overhaul the scenario editor and replace it with Civ3Edit, a much less powerful version?

It just doesnt make any sense to me.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I didnt see the thread. So sue me.

Maybe they were preparing for PTW.

There is also another possibility that I can think of. Infogrames wanted the product on the market and since Firaxis did not have enough time to complete it some things were left out.

But Alpha Centauri is already there! It's MUCH easier to rewrite old code (especially if your using the very same engine) than it is to make up completly new code. Why scrap the scenario editor and everything, and create "Civ3Edit"?

Remember, they claim that Civ 3 is a 95% rewrite of SMAC code, with very little left in place.

Yes but *sigh* Why rewrite the in game scenario editor? It allowed you to place units, technological advances, cities, etc.....But now you can't do any of that. Why would they completly eliminate that part and spend more money creating Civ3edit, a much less powerful version of a "scenario" (read, map) editor?

Am I making sense? Its 4:30 and I'm tired....

Maybe some kind of bugs were discovered since some things were changed and they scrapped the in-game scenario editor.

Or, they decided to make Civ3Edit, since the interface is nicer, and deactivated that code.

Remember, Civ III was rushed to market for the Christmas holiday.

Just wondering...

"Hey, guys! the final copy we sent to Infogrames went with that file menu.txt"

(A moment of silence.)

"Never mind, the kind of public we're aiming for won't even notice it".

Likely, they couldn't incorporate the total features they planned in the SMAC editor. Especially the miniscule rule adjustments. Once the patch for the editore comes out, it will be far more robust a tool.
