Archibald Cunningham Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Who?

Why, it's Tim Roth's truly nasty villain in the movie Rob Roy! Perhaps the most hateable man in movie history. Even Ralph Fiennes' Nazi commandant in Schindler's List was more sympathetic:

Crap, misspelled in the poll. Oh well. Another one I can't find a good pic for, so this will have to do:

I never thought of it that way. Still don't think Hal was a villain. Hal was just a bit off its rocker.

Then again, what villain isn't just a bit off his/her/it rocker?

Sheriff of Nottingham Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

"And call off Christmas!"

Ok, the Costner movie blew chunks, but it had nothing to do with our Sheriff, as he was brilliantly played by Alan Rickman. Perhaps my favorite bad guy of the middle ages.

The best villains are often the ones who aren't evil, but just the antagonists of the story. Certainly Javert is no villain. He believes he is acting out of what is good, which is the law, against what is evil, which is rebellion. And others on the list have their sympathetic traits, too. That's what makes them interesting!

You'd think it would be easy to find a decent pic of him, but it wasn't. Anyway, here's Ian McKellan in the stage production. Didn't see it, but heard he was fantastic. Well, of course he was! He's Ian McKellan!

Oh I agree with you completely. I prefer a story where everyone thinks they are doing what's right and there is no clear bad guy or evil overlord type person. Much more interesting that way.

But still, Hal isn't exactly a villain. Just an antagonist.

And Alan Rickman is excellent in whatever he does. Even when he's next to Kevin Costner.

Good call, Ming.

Tim Curry can raise the level of whatever crappy-ass movie he is working on.

And I was totally serious about subbing Ming for Bruce.

After I thought about it, Ming was a far better choice over a mindless eating machine. I mean really, no contest.

I'm amazed Scarpia has more than one vote (mine). And Richard III languishing with 2 votes?! Bah! He's one of the greatest!

DD, as I said, had to limit villains from different genres. I didn't want too many comic book villains, and the Joker and Lex are far more widely known to the general public than Magneto or Dr. Doom.

Don't ask me to justify. Just make them write-ins. And post pics!

It's a fantasy world. Who says capes aren't cool? And anyway, fashion is for looosers who have nothing better to do with their lives. Fashion for me is clean and comfortable. Well, comfortable anyway. Clean when I'm not lazy.
