A while ago, Trip presented a tactical map showing Project/Plan/Case Eagle for attack on america. I saw some other map too although I don't remember what for. I thought of expanding this to the entire known world. I have made a jpg of the entire known world, and marked things of tactical importance (well, some things).
Unfortunately, I cannot post this image because it is too large. No- not bytewise, it's only 70k. The forum has something against it being 1176 pixels wide.
I urge people to download the attached zip file and tell me what you think, what needs to be improved, etc. At the moment I am planning
* Make civilization colors more transparent
* Highlight other terrain bonuses such as gold, cattle, etc.
This is the small version of the map. It is one sixteenth the size of the game in 1600x1200 resolution. It is enough for this purpose. I have a larger version which is one fourth the normal size, (available upon request
Suggestions and plz download!

I have made another modification to the map, and calling this one 'influence'. Over each town, a color burst is added according to its owner. The strength of the burst comes from the simple formula
City Size * (City Culture + 1)
This, I think, gives the best indication of the over all value of any given city or territory. The way the burst works, the more cities that overlap, the brighter the color is. The problem is this early in the game, the most powerful cities are of strength 9 (out of 255). Because of this I have greatly increased in the images saturation.
I am attaching the prototype. Red area is currently no man's land. In the future I wont saturate the picture so much, but I thought it would be best to do so now for show offing. Without the saturation I gave it, all the red would be grey, and all of the colors would be much less visible. (aka, prototype)
----
in retrospect, perhaps production ability is more important than culture-- or perhaps I should save that for another image.
