Any way to adjust research rate? Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I know there are ways to optimize my research, but is there anyway to change the speed of research? I.e., is there a file somewhere that determines research takes "x" amount of turns OR each individual discovery takes "x" amount of turns?

I know in CivII and CivIII that there was a global research rate that affected the base time to research a new discovery. Is there anything like that in CtPII?

Thanks in advance.

Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

The speed of reseach of a certain advance is determined by:

1. The cost specified for this advance in Advance.txt (IIRC by how much the total amount of research should be multiplied to get the total amount of research)

2. KnowledgeCoef for the current government, as set in govern.txt (How much extra science is needed to get advances)

3. SCIENCE_HANDICAP for the current difficulty level, as set in Const.txt

I hope I didn't forget anything...

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Maxing out the sliders for research will speed things up so will building libraries, universities, and research centers. Also don't forget to use Science specialites when they become availible and lastly don't for get about traded techs with other civs.

Inflate your Upload Space

Unlike civ3, a player has to make an effort to maintain and build science improvements/specialists (and the occasional trade) to catch the AI . If you want to 'dumb down' your science rate to raise the cash to buy techs, you will be sadly disappointed, and sooner or later, you will be staring down the barrel of a gun with nothing but a pointy stick.

And unlike civ3, that pointy stick won't save you.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I agree the buy techs strategy won't work in CTP2. You'll actually have to do your own work.
