I predict a proper church wedding within 2 years. Your mother will not rest till you bow to Rome.

I don't think so...my Mother is involved in the pre-emptive strike against my Mother in law...the whole reason we did it this way was to avoid a meltdown due to her being a control freak and wanting to orchestrate the whole thing on a very limited budget. The next battle is the reception, which my mom wants to do nicely and write a check for, as opposed to mother in law, who has no money and wants to do it out of the back of a car or something. That one is going to get ugly, as I'd definitely approve of a nice function where someone else picks up the tab, but I think I'll defer to the wife and let her try to include her mom somehow. Argh...women.

quote:
Although I'm sure the crack whore during the post-ceremony smoke though kind of signed the death warrant on the dignity of your choice of locations.

I thought it was kind of funny, but yeah, there is some sketchy stuff in North Vegas...a lot of crazy homeless people.

quote:
Are you really a rich baritone, Sneak, or was the streaming running slow?

I am indeed. Throwback from my Shakespearean days--learned to project and all that. People say I give "good phone" and I can pretty much get women giggling and stammering as long as they can only hear me.

quote:
If you were going to go to the trouble of streaming this on the internet you should have at least done your wedding night so you could have made some cash on the side

Well...maybe Mrs. Sneak, but I don't think my naked and dilapidated figure would bring in much revenue.

quote:
Supersneak should get the legend title now.

I agree...you know Markos will figure out a way to twist it into some sort of marketing campaign!

quote:
When did you guys get to Vegas? I left on monday after visiting in-laws. Vegas is awesome, which part of the strip are you getting married on?

We got in on Sunday and left Tuesday. Stayed at The Mirage (awesome) and got married in the seedy part of Las Vegas (downtown area) on the Strip. I definitely thought Vegas was an interesting spectacle, but I'd never live there, as you seem to be contemplating. Way too hot and tacky.

If it did, they'd make a fortune. As it is with great athletes, you cannot hope to stop or manage them, you can only hope to contain them!

BTW, the Start Trek Experience at the Hilton was a really fun ride and a neat time if you are into that show. I think it was one of the highlights. A little spendy, but we had a good time there--and Quark's bar serves up some massive and powerful drinks!
Got my picture taken in the Captain's chair...I'll scan it one of these days.

Tired of ads?

Yeah...some bad stuff in there! Ours went off pretty smoothly--that's why we did it short, sweet and to the point...less chance for screw-ups.
Though the pictures are pretty weak and off-center. And the wait in line at the Marriage Bureau was pretty long...but we made it without any major tragedies.

Seeing as we were staying with my wife's brothers, we got to see the more residential areas which are quite nice. Coming from NYC the houses are at bargain prices, and we wanna have kids in the next couple of years, so it all looks pretty attractive at this point.

Yeah...I guess it meets your needs. But the heat was unbearable IMO. If the market drops, that's going to be a very bad place to live. A lot of the cab drivers were talking about how bad the economy has been...I'd research that extensively. How will you make a living?

If you are looking for a great place to raise children and have a good life with four mild yet distinct seasons, high desert, mountains and ocean, as well as culture and a very liberal, laid back atmosphere, come check out Oregon.
I've been to a lot of different states and countries, and none of them has the package that this place offers.

I didnt really mind the heat that much, but I guess I was never out in it all day.

I work in IT and my wife in fashion. A friend of ours who is a recruiter said IT people were in high demand, so hopefully there is plenty for me to choose from. My brother in law said the same thing about the economy, but he also said it was picking up again. I will definitely check everything out carefully before moving. We cant move till the end of next year anyway.

Suffering from ads?

Depends on the area of the state. Typical housing in Portland for a nice neighborhood with good schools would run you about $200,000 for a 3 bedroom two bath.
That's just a ballpark figure of course, it goes up and down depending on the specific area. My neighborhood is booming and very popular with the younger crowd, so a 2bdrm. Craftsman style bungalow can go for the high end, pushing $200,000. But if you want to live in the suburbs or can handle a 20-30 minute commute, you can get a great deal on a home.

www.oregonlive.com is a good site for general information with links to other more specific answers. Portland is a beautiful city on a river, very clean and low crime, with a small feel considering it is a major metropolitan area.

What kinds of things do you like to do in your free time?
