Yes, bribing would rather unbalance it... at least we can still nuke each other with spies.

Bribing is one of the fun parts of the game!!!

Besides with three human players you are more likely to spend your entire treasury before a city is bribed.....But we have three other oponents as well and bribing AI civs for a couple hundred gold Is top notch fun

Lets see...........

AI city 200g

Same city if ran by a human player for abo 12 turns......1500g

Not much chance of that happening.

How do we sum up the results of this poll?

Since "Unit Bribing Only" and "No Bribing" together got more votes than "Bribing Allowed" it could be argued that the no bribing votes should be transferred to the no city bribing alternative...

I would argue that more people wanted no bribing at all, but the people that said units only also want to restrict bribing, we should transfer the 2 to the 10 and have no bribing whatsoever.

Got spare money?

It could also be argued that the people who voted for bribing only units want to bribe, they are simply fearfull of a game where human players are defeated by mass bribing.

I propose we allow bribing of AI ONLY leaving the human players to fend each other off in other, more destructive, ways

Point: thos who voted for bribing units only obviously liked bribing and disliked it so we cannot assume that the votes should be counted as a "no bribe" ballot. If that was thier intention they would have voted as such.

To clarify my earlier post, the results could be counted like this:

Unit bribing: 13 people for, 10 against
City bribing: 11 people for, 12 against

The poll is clear about cheating.
But about bribing, it may be :
-no bribing cities between human players (but against AI ???)
-bribing unit is allowed for all the civs (except particular rule agreeded during the game).

If bribing of human civs is allowed, it will make for a very boring game. The winning strategy is too plain.

Full PM-box? Change here!

The result of this poll was pretty clear.

Yes to bribing won legitimately, and any other interpretation is putting personal influence over the result, aka cheating.

However, I would be happy, as a compromise, to agree to no bribing of humans. But yes to unit and city bribing of the AIs.

Why treat human players differently?! Bribing is far from 'cheating', it's a part of how Civ 2 runs, and should be included in full.

So far this is the best information I can gather from our polls and posts.

1. 1x1 Standard rules
2. 7 civs
3. We will Play Real time (althought PBEM is looking real good now )
4.Huge Mixed Landmass
5. Bribing of human players not allowed, Open market on AI
6. No "cheats" such as the airfield trick
7. Our Civ name seems to be "Apolytonia" (Great Name
)
8. And so far we have one suggestion to be white and one to be orange in color.

Bribing will QUICKLY ruin a game.

I say no to any sort of bribing at all. (Even with AIs, as the folks who don't find an AI will whine )

Those of you who have played a multiplayer game know, bribing turns games into money fests, where combat is SEVERELY limited by the fact that you are defenseless to a "counterattack" by a diplo, which also takes your whole army with it.

I sincerely hope that many of you reconsider.

Put an end to popups!

I think that human/human bribery makes multiplayer games dull, because the only thing that matters is gold production. Whoever gets the edge in this can simply buy the other civs into extinction. When you do that to the AI, it's fine, but just imagine being in the AI's shoes, losing to a bribing human! Do we really want to go there?

How about an explicit poll, with 6 multiple choice boxes: 3 for humans, 3 for AIs - cities, units, none. My guess is that bribing of AIs will be popular, and bribery between humans won't be.

I have seen this happen at the zone. The "Bribery Challenge"

If bribing is allowed, I won't build a SINGLE offensive military unit.

Only caravans, setts, diplos and pikes.

And I will win, because as soon as I get to Republic, I WILL bury you with cheap diplos and theive technology. Then buy any towns I need to.

In order to see how devastating bribery truly is, play the standard WWII Scenario against someone. Then after the initial attack, bribe the city back from the attacker. Then take over HIS army and hide it in the city.

Wait for next attack and repeat, all the while building a diplo army and delivering caravans.

And for all of you naysayers out there who will trot out Democracy as a defense... Hope you can get Demo by 500 B.C. Or you better hope I don't find you.

I think you should reconsider the bribery rule.

This is the votes totalled for each option but it has been posted about only allowing bribing of AI cities.

For city bribing 11
Not for city bribing 12
For unit bribing 13
Not for unit bribing 10
