	Finnish Apolytoner meeting - official thread Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

This is a follow up to the Apolyton Finnmeet, August thread in the OT forum.

Moved the discussion over to the Community forum as it would get more exposure here and it's a bit more official here.

So what's this all about?

Stefu officially suggested in OT a meeting of Finnish Apolytoners (I suppose Apolytoners from other countries are also welcome, but I'm not sure ) would have a small one day meeting in Helsinki around 5-9th August 2002. He listed in his post that at least 3 plus him had earlier this year showed interest for a meeting like this.

Anything achieved this far in the OT discussion?

At least a second handful of Finns have been interested to participate, but nothing else worth to mention was debated. Except where it should be, and some idea of Pekka (i.e. plenty of free alcohol, strippers and topless bartender ). This far I've suggested Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) as the location for a possible meeting, but no one else has said anything else, except aaglo who was in favour of that.

The Finnish submarine Saukko is still open for visitors in August, so let's have a meeting indoors aboard Saukko.

As I said, rain I can handle, I'm more afraid it'll be what most people would say "good" weather.

Why do we have to have some fancy-pants location? Doesn't a regular bar/cafe (depending on the ability of the younger crowd to get forced ID) suffice?

Well, okay, any cafe/bar suits me fine... I'm not so eager to go to viapori/sveaborg/suomenlinna. Perhaps somewhere close to Esplanadin puisto?

So now we need proper suggestions on where in Helsinki the meeting should take place?

The only real suggestion this far is Suomenlinna, because those who were in favour of a pub or cafe didn't say any specifics.

Some facts that should be notified when planning the meating are the following facts:

1. Minors. We can't go to a pub/bar that has an age limit of 18/21.

2. Financies. We aren't that stinking rich. If we would be, then it would be quite easy to decide; the restaurant at Hotel Kämp.

2. Force majoure and weather. We'll have to agree on one secondary place due to those things are quite unpredictable.

Why don't we just go to Linnanmäki then, have nice safe ice creams, give warm handshakes, have nametags and lacoste t-shirts. The funny part will be when Tuoremehu fumbles with his ice cream and his shirt is dirty. We can all go to the rollercoaster, and I hope it fails and kills us all.

What ever happened to the booze and strippers?!

the strippers are fine for me; and the drinks. The point is that you'll have to come up with something about the location. At least Kaivopuisto is not in my favour, so any decent places can be considered by me.

If Pekka has a sect meeting, then I'll stick to the people at the embassy; but, hey, that would mean only me.

So I'm still probably in, but if nothing has been decided prior to next Monday, I'm not sure if there's going to any meeting at all.

At least Patriviqeum was recently on Poly, but looks like he ignored this thread. So should we PM the "veterans" of those Suomithreadis?

It;s so nice reading about all these places that I've been to: it makes me feel like a special Finnish expert! If I remember correctly Suomenlaina wasn't that expensive… at most 100 Markka?? Cheap cheap CHEAP! And lovely too. I went there twice and had a blast both times. I flirted a bit with the tour guide!

what did you pay 100 FIM for? The ferry ticket Suomenlinna (Sveaborg)?!? Oh, dear, oh, dear, in that case some Finn must have lured you by charging the price of single ticket for 10 persons, not 1. (I guess it was a typo or bad memory?). BTW how many times have you been here? How long? Where have you actually been and, if not too personal, then why? If I got it right you have apparently at least been to Helsinki and visited Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) and Kaivopuisto (Brunsparken)?

Interesting to know, IMO.

So the whole idea of a meeting is now in real danger. I'll evacuate myself to the embassy, if things get worse, as I don't want to be in the middle of rioting Apolytoners.

I didn't pay 100 FIM for it. It was less, but I was just gessing. I remember that when I went $10 American was 70FIM, and I figured entrance to suomenlainen could be around $20, so I guessed. No I never got scammed. Last Summer I was in Finland for two whole months as part of a prestigious U.S. - Finnish Senate scholarship program. I've been to Turkuu, the archipelago (and my host family's cottage on an island there), Suomenlainen, the department of state, education, muminland, and all around Helsinki and various suburbs. Plus I did a bunch of bike riding around Espoo. Great Summer!
