Sid Meier's Civilization II

I'm not sure if you have heard about it, but it's a fairly good and nice game. Actually it's more than addictive. Or perhaps I should say to be honest, that my life is dedicated to it.

Final Fantasy 7 - played through 4 times @ approx 50 hours each

International Superstar Soccer (multiple versions for both PSOne and PS2) - more time than I want to admit.

Europa Universalis 2.

So many times I'll start playing the game in the morning, and before I know it the sun has set, and I haven't even gotten out of my chair since starting the game.

Back in the old days, The Bard's tale sucked up a lot of my time. since getting a PC, though, no other game has taken so much of my gaming time as some version of Civilization. Civ2 has probably taken the lion's share of that. I'm afraid that since Civ3 has come out, I play little else. I don't have the problems with it that everyone else seems to have, and every patch seems to make it a bit better.

other than that, some version of Diablo and some version of Heroes Of Might and Magic run a close second

Suffering from ads?

Civ I! Far and a way the most amount of time ever on a game. Probably played a good five hundred games always in an effort to tweak my strategy to gain a higher score. Too many times did I play it.

I played SimCity a lot as well. In the last few years I have spent time on all the Blizzard games but nothing to rival the original Civ.

Civ2, for the sheer fact that I've had it for so long. I got it for Christmas of '96 and played it constantly 'till AC came out. Then after a while, I went back to it and played it even more.

Some other time-sucking games for me were: Diablo 2 LOD, i had that game for a very short time, but i played it from sun-up till sun-down. I discovered civ2 pretty late, but it has been one of the more time consuming games.

Consider Tropico if you find it selling for $10 or less. Not worth the money otherwise.

What takes up most of my time now is the game of Life.

Haven't really played much computer games lately.

Way back in the 80s Gunship, F-19, and Red Storm Rising.
In the 90s Civ 1/2/TOT, X-Com 1/2/3, RRTC 1, SC 1/2.
In the 2000s, SC 3, Civ 3, CTP 1/2, AOE/K, EEarth.
Actually I play the Civ series the most.

Sim City 3000, Black & White, and Civ 3. I waste entirely too much time on these games. I was going to put Neverwinter Nights in there, but I have already stopped playing it, as the single player mode is kinda good, but not good enough. Maybe when I can find a good online DM or group to hook up with, maybe then it will be the ultimate time killer.

For a single game, probably Myth I, from all that time spent doing multiplayer. Heroes of Might & Magic II comes close too, probably.

The Final Fantasy series as a whole has burned quite a bit of time, but the longer the game, the fewer the playthroughts. FF2/4j I have to have gone through at least 10-15 times, but that's only 10-15 hours a playthrough. FF6 probably has been beaten 6-8 times, and that's 25-35 hours. FF1 is a good 50 hours the first, massive levelling up when young- prossibly more, don't have a clock- but that's only 1 and a half playthroughs. FF7, 3 playthroughs and it's 15-20 hours. FF8, 1 and half playthroughs and it's 25-30 hours. FF9, 1 playthrough and that was 30 hours or so. FF10, 1 playthrough and that was another 30 hours.

Hmmm Let's see: 4 to 20 hours+ per game times over 600 games of Strategic Conquest on the Mac vs. 2 to 6 hours of Civ 2 per day 5 days a week on the PC for a decade -- you pick.

Desert Rats on the Spectrum
Bards Tale on the Atari ST
Civ 1,2, Simcity 1,2k Railroad/Transport Tycoon and Xcom 1-3 on the PC
most recently EU II

I play a lot of MMORPG's and RPG's but they normally end or get unbearably repetitive after a couple of hundred hours gameplay. All of the above have easily consumed many hundred (Bards Tale because I replayed it so much since there were so few games available.)
