The rules have changed check my next post in this topic for rules as they now stand.
The game will run off a slightly modified version of Dutcheese's Quick start PBEM.
I have modified it so that you don't start with reniassance techonolgies, but start with only 10 basic technologies;
1000 public works,
1000 gold
5 of dutcheese's super settlers, who when they found, create cities with population =3, and the cities contain a phalanx.
4 weakened knights, with improved movement (not as improved as in Dutcheeses Quick start.)
???Do you want to keep Dutcheese's boat???
Could prove handy if you get stuck on an Island.
Unfortunately due to CTP's lack of scenarios support in PBEM games, you'll have to replace, 4 text files; (I of course will email these to you; there barely different from Dutcheese's) and just as with Dutcheese's modification; you'll have to replace these with the original if you want to play any real time multiplayer (I checked it on LAN)
I'll be playing as Sophix of the Assyrians
any one else in?
looking for about 6 players.
Modified Slic Credit Goes to Shavlor, of course major kudos to Dutcheese.

P.S. wasn't thinking when a selected the Icon for the topic. Oh Well

The Rules Have changed
Thanks to some feedback, The Units are the same as in Dutcheese's mod. The differences are as follows
Starting Gold 1000
Starting PW 1000
Starting Techs 10
Starting Units
5 settlers (when they found a city It will grow to 3 pop and contain a Phalanx)
1 Knight
and a boat
All of these modifications require no changes to the text files if your running Dutcheese's Mod, In fact you don't need any files from me (unless you want to host(start) a game using these modifications, Then you'll need my Scenario will be downloadable soon. I'll post when it is.) For noiw email me and email you a copy.
If you don't have Dutcheese's Scenario Pack 7, you'll have to download it.
So far we have 4 players
Sophix (myself) as the Assyrian
Shavlor as the Romans
Jon as the Australians
Hexagonia has a slot reserved; but I haven't thought through the scheduling yet, so whether it will fit your time constaints I'm unsure.
So were still looking for 2 more players.

First off
Hexagonia I've thought through the schedule and I can definitely have your turns fall on Tuesday, Thursday, And Saturday. These means the game should involve 2-3 turns per player a week. If thats cool with all involved.
I would recommend to every one that they download the scenario, so that they can formulate a strategy for the accelerated game. In my opinion the first three turns are by far the most important in the game.
Next the question of map size, I was thinking a huge map with the 6 players, this is big enough to allow for expansion, but small enough to allow for bickering over land, which is oh so fun
Any thoughts on map features in general?
Do we want any AIs
Any other suggestions.
I'll email you all when we have six players.
We need one more player.

Okay we now have 6 players so the game is ready to roll.
We start as soon as we get consensus on certain issues.
I'm sending an email to all signed up players.
Slamp made some very good points do we want to increase PW and Gold Im thinking Yes. You don't have to download anything further if we do increase the starting Values. But I'll put the modified Scenario up, so you can get an Idea of which one is better.
I'm leaning toward changing it. Any opinions.
Sophanthro.

Gnawing on your mind...

Here's the gist of Monkeys PBEM rules. Of course these are open for discussion/changes.
Each time a player makes a turn, he/she must post a reply on a running thread which the host has created on Apolyton indicating the current turn number/year and the player that the he/she has passed the turn to.
eg fred has just completed turn 53(year 1010BC) and passed the game to Samantha.
fred will post on a thread in Apolyton with something like this:
"Turn 53/1010BC Fred=>Samantha"
This method of posting at Apolyton is to keep track of where the game is at. Players can easily see where the game is at and when they can expect to see their turn next.
In the event of unforseen departure, notify the host first. Then depending on the circumstance there are three options
The host can either decide to replace the leaving player with another player of the leaving player's choice. This temporary player will agree to play the leaving player's turns only for the period of abscence.
The host can recommend the leaving player to attach an ai to his civ. (Not sure if this works in PBEM) ie the ai controls the leaving player's civ for the time of abscence.
The host can completely replace the leaving player with another player(human or ai) if a player decides to completely drop out. This is drastic move and I hope it never happens in PBEM
If a player feels that he must notify the other players about his abscence then he must either post at the running thread at Apolyton or request that the host informs the other players.
I would encourage all players to get into the spirit of civilization and start roleplaying. Imagine that you're the ruler of a real nation, what would you say to a neighbour ruler and how would you address him? What would your battle reports be like and how would you update the progress of your civs? Have a look at the thread "Tales of the diplomatic front II" in the civ2 multiplaying forum if you don't know what I am talking about.
Don't be too obsessive about trying to destroy the other civs. Try not to use cheap tactics (ICS Infinite City Sleaze comes to mind) when you are playing. How would you like it if you had been happily playing for a few months and managed to reached up to the 150th turn only to have some pkiller come along and destroy your civ in 5 turns? Not fun, I'm sure you will agree. Play not to win, but for enjoyment.
When you get your file, play the turn one time. When you make a move, you must commit to it. Do not restart the turn if you do something stupid or rash, or restart the turn to widen your intellegence (i.e. move units to see a hidden tile and then restart your turn to scope out other hidden tiles).
Flaming, bad language, racial slurs, excessive gloating will not be tolerated. Show some consideration and respect for your fellow players.
Sophanthro,
Can you also give us the game settings before we start?
Option: Maybe you can choose 2 setups, give us a chance to vote on them and then, in case of a tie, open it on the forum to the first non-playing person who responds.
By the way, the new scenerio with xtra gold is fine with me.

After very quick read of Monkeys Rules the seem very good, and will most likely be used in the Semi-Accelerated PBEM game.
Hexagonia I'll email you the files you need to replace, as well as post them on the site where you downloaded my rippoff Scenario.
When I get home from work. BTW there the same files from the Dutcheeses Scenario for PBEM.
http://www1.50megs.com/ctp
One other thing did all of you get my email, Ive only got one reply. I was hoping to start the ASAP.
I'll mail out another batch with an options on final settings, please respond even if you have no opinion.

Wow Hex thats quite a lot of rules and stuff.
And as for the rule no fighting until 3 turns are up that is pointless for two reasons first the knight last until the fourth turn
And second and much more important the knight has zero attack, zero deffence, zero firepower, and one HP. And even if he can take unoccupied cities you get a phalanx to guard your city. And second I don't quite understand your comments about not trying to kill other with occession and PKers this is not Diablo the whole idea of this game is to win either with science or with Bloodlust.
Note on trying to go to complete war:
It is very hard to mantain a healthy civ and war at the same time since your units cost you gold (slowing down your science) and they also cost you production(slowing down building and PW)
Thats all for me for now.Sorry for rambling
Lets play!

I've chatted with Sophranto via ICQ and am easy with the rules and setup except for the dual start idea. Someone will always prefer one over the other so I say like it or lump it!
I am starting a new thread after writing this for another PBEM game called 'New PBEM', very original I know, but it will be straight Dutcheese without any mods or preconditions.

Rules for the Semi Accelerated PBEM game
When you get your file, play the turn one time. When you make a
move, you must commit to it. Do not restart you turn. The only
exceptable reason for playing a turn over again is the computer
crashing.
Each time a player makes a turn, he/she must post a reply on a
running thread which the host has created on Apolyton indicating
the current turn number/year and the player that the he/she has
passed the turn to.
In the event of unforseen departure or any days you wont be able to
take, post it on the Forum.
If the Departure is permanent than attach an AI to your player, and
than then will open the Game up to a new player to join
If the Departure is for a while, but you want to continue later find
some one to replace your player or let the AI (not advisable) play it
out, or let the host, me find a player.
If you let your turn sit for more than 24 hours without sending
anything to me or posting on the thread your turn will have an AI
attached by the previous player (Hexagonia if your turn falls on say
a Sunday night you'll have until Tuesday Midnight; etc.)
Try to take your turns ASAP so the game can move as fast as
possible.
Don't make the game suck for anyone; of course if they stand in
your path of Global Domination killing them is no crime.
Sorry for lengthy discussion on rules.
Sophanthro
P.S Role playing makes the game more fun. Some of the
newspapers Ive read in other PBEM games were quite enjoyable.
