99% Complete, Screenshots, critism help Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

The Mod is almost complete just a few touch ups required, but before I finish it and send it off to Firaxis, I'd like some constructive critism, things like the colour, tree's, etc. And even things that you would have liked to have seen.

Question: is Firaxis going to release this as a scenario or just the graphics files?

By the way I absoulutely love the trench affect with the coastal tiles!

Great work Sn00ps.

I'm with Stormbringer though, on the trees. You need to space them out more! Maybe make a couple forms of the terrain with pretty dense trees, but that's a little extreme (edge to edge completely covered with foliage). Make a few that are somewhat sparse, and maybe you could make a few grassland tiles with some brush or small trees (eye candy really, not obtrusive or distracting though).

Those are my suggestions.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

My mistake, I made this map up myself, I didn't generate it, and in my personal preference, I like clumped tree's, but I have heard many people complaining that it is too dense, and some tree's overlapped the water. So I did away with my clumping and made sure that the tree's are almost exactly the same size as all of Firaxis original tree's.

But maybe I'm misunderstanding you, maybe you are talking about the clumpness INSIDE of the tree graphics, (that there is no room inbetween each tree itself)? Well I will re-do the plains tree's, because they are much more sparse than grassland and in cold areas(pine).

Larger mountains: Sounds like a good idea, I'll see what happens.

Ghengis: Not as a scenario, just as a graphics mod pack.

I would leave it as it is. Good work Snoopy.

I hope you included that submerged whale resource I saw in your other thread, because that was great!

So, when it is finished, will you post it for download?
Or inflict more "pain" and make us wait for PTW?

My sugestions: Add a little sand color in the coast water.
Make the north edeges of the coast to sea/ocean more defined.
Make the sea lighter for more diferance between sea and ocean.

What I would like but others might not, is no square corners on any tiles.

Yes, that's what I'm referring to. Space the trees out a bit more.
Something more like the tile to the right of the mountain and less like the clump near the top in the 2nd picture.

Actually yeah- the norther edges look a bit "untransparent"- U can see the edge through the water from the south side but not from on the north side ?????

Not cliffs just a more solid line.

How does it look with the cliffs on sea to ocean?
Are you going to have small trees on rivers?
The shadow on the cactus or dead tree is going the wrong way.
It would be cool to have ice burgs in the tundra coast.

It looks great!

the water look a lot far better in the pic your post in this thread :

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...?threadid=54533

The whales with underwater shadow is great (please please add it in your mod).

The little isle in the ocean (with submerged shadow) is a very great idea.

In this pic i immedialty understand when my ship are in coastal water and sea/ocean water.

I read in the thread someone telling you to make mountain bigger, i agree.

Now about the current pics i think you have to make a real diferance to coastal/sea/ocean.

I like to see a cliff for transition from coastal to sea water and another cliff for transition from sea to ocean. To reflect deep.

I'll give up on the trees.

If there was one thing I would recommend is more realistic plains graphics. Kind of like the fairy tale mod you were/are working on. Your current ones (and the Firaxis default) kind of look like a dead wasteland... make them look wheat-plains like.

I recommend that you make the north edges more defined too. Don't add the cliff...just clean up the mess. As it is, the north edges of the coast just kinda meeellllltttt into the sea. They should be abruptly ended, though don't add cliffs. It is in the coloring I believe. Don't let the sea or ocean connect to it with that color drag, and put an end to it in the coastal squares or sea or ocean squares.

Got spare money?

Yes, the mountains need to be more distinguishable from the hills - something that tells you at the quickest glance which it is.

The main problem I have with dense trees is that you often cannot see whether grassland or tundra are beneath it. More than once I've cleared trees on a game special, only to find tundra. (I've modded my tundra to be more or less worthless)

Also, the water is just way too blue. Even the waters of the caribbean are not that vibrant! Tone it down towards a hint of gray, that should make a difference.

Thinner trees, more distinct mountains, less blinding water.

All in all,

Actually, I think they look very realistic. I grew up where the buffalo roam, and that looks as good as you'll get with computer graphics. Don't be fooled into thinking 11 months of yellow, dried up grass is a wasteland!

Get a bigger avatar today!

My personal preferences, looks great especially the coastal shelf look. But< i would like to see more difference between the sea and ocean tiles, it looks like it would be easy to mix them up right now.

Also, if you get a chance maybe a little more greenish tint to the plains. The plains have always been TOO yellow as if they were in a 4000 year drought, and by that time they would have reverted to desert. Maybe a greenish/yellow.

I grew up and still live where the buffalos roam and outside of June-July it's not that yellow. And even then it's only in spots.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

-make both green and brown hills (like the grey AND red mountains in your current terrain graphics)

-I love your trees, don't change em!

-I like the easy blend from sea to ocean (hard to see), in reality, you can't see the difference

-have you done the resources/goody huts/barb camps like you said?

On the fairy tale mod: In the pic Frustrated poet showed, the brown terrain in the lower-righthand corner, RELEASE THAT FILE! NOW! If you recall the discussion on CivFanatics I made about the steppe terrain, that looks EXACTLY like what I wanted. Release it! Now! *cracks out whip*

Love the new mod, if you didn't know .
